Trucking Operations Manager

Position Summary

Reporting to the General Manager, the Operations Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient, and profitable operations.

This hands-on leadership role oversees transportation, inventory, facility maintenance, regulatory compliance, employee supervision, and customer service while actively supporting operations during peak periods.

Key Responsibilities

Operations Leadership

• Manage daily operations of both terminal locations.
• Oversee inventory, product handling, blending, loading, storage, and transportation activities.
• Ensure facilities, equipment, and assets are maintained and utilized effectively.
• Develop operational plans and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
• Coordinate with suppliers, contractors, carriers, and customers to ensure reliable service.

Safety & Regulatory Compliance

• Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with company policies.
• Maintain OSHA, DOT, environmental, and other regulatory requirements.
• Conduct safety meetings, inspections, investigations, and corrective actions.
• Support emergency preparedness and environmental stewardship initiatives.

Maintenance & Asset Management

• Manage preventative maintenance programs for facilities, trucks, trailers, tanks, pumps, and equipment.
• Coordinate repairs and contractor activities.
• Assist with capital planning and facility improvement projects.

Transportation & Logistics

• Manage transportation resources and delivery performance.
• Maintain relationships with drivers, owner-operators, brokers, and carriers.
• Optimize routing, scheduling, and equipment utilization.

People Leadership

• Lead, coach, and develop operations employees and drivers.
• Establish performance expectations and accountability.
• Participate in hiring, training, performance management, and workforce planning.
• Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment.

Financial Administration

• Assist in managing operating budgets and cost control initiatives.
• Approve payroll hours and monitor operational spending.
• Prepare operational reports and performance metrics.

Hands-On Support

The Operations Manager is expected to assist operationally when required, including:

• Yard maintenance and housekeeping.
• Product loading, unloading, and blending.
• Equipment operation (forklifts, loaders, shunt trucks, etc.).
• Emergency response and peak-season support.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Minimum 5 years of operations management experience in transportation, logistics, manufacturing, or industrial operations.
• Minimum 5 years of leadership experience supervising employees.
• Post-secondary education in Business, Logistics, Operations Management, Engineering Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience in terminal operations, liquid bulk handling, transportation, or fleet management preferred.

Technical Knowledge

• Knowledge of transportation, logistics, and safety regulations.
• Understanding of OSHA requirements and workplace safety practices.
• Familiarity with liquid product handling, pumps, tanks, blending systems, and maintenance programs.
• Valid driver's license required; CDL is an asset.
