Position Summary


The Clinical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for performing high complexity laboratory testing on patient specimens, performing quality control and quality assurance procedures, interpreting and complying with all applicable local, state and federal laboratory requirements. The work requires keeping meticulous and organized records, excellent attention to detail, the ability to multi-task and be flexible with tasks and schedules and the ability to work independently in a team environment.


Responsibilities


  • Perform laboratory tests, procedures and analyses according to the laboratory’s standard operating procedures.
  • Perform equipment maintenance according to the laboratory’s standard operating procedures.
  • Review, interpret and report patient results as assigned.
  • Independently identify and troubleshoot high complexity problems that adversely affect the test performance.
  • Perform, review and document laboratory quality control procedures.
  • Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.
  • Assist with training of new laboratory personnel and training of new procedures with existing personnel.
  • Prepare reagents required for testing.
  • Perform and document reagent qualification per the approved protocols.
  • Perform annual review of Standard Operating Procedures, Write and review of procedures, documents and forms.
  • Perform and document routine preventive maintenance of equipment.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, as needed.
  • Manage the testing and validation of new laboratory equipment and procedures.
  • Report all concerns of test quality and/or safety to the Laboratory Supervisor or Safety Officer.
  • Participate in introduction of assay improvements, new assay configurations and validation.
  • Provide direct supervision of the work of unlicensed laboratory personnel during the analytical phase of testing.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers and non-laboratory personnel.
  • Work closely with Quality team to perform QMS related activities.
  • Perform other laboratory duties as assigned.


Qualifications


  • Must possess a valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist Generalist License (preferred) or Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist Scientist (CGMBS) license.
  • Bachelor of Arts or Science in Biomedical Laboratory Science, Clinical Science or related field
  • Working knowledge of local, state, and federal laboratory regulations
  • Experience in molecular biology techniques preferred.
  • Experience NGS manual workflows preferred.
  • At least a year or more of clinical laboratory experience.
  • Ability to integrate and apply feedback in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Basic computer skills and automation skills preferred.
  • Able to prioritize and drive to results with a high emphasis on quality.
  • Ability to analyze and problem solve basic issues that impact test performance.
  • Ability to proactively communicate consistently, clearly, and honestly.
  • Ability to participate in projects and complete assignments as expected.
  • Flexibility of work schedule to meet the needs of the clinical laboratory.
  • Flexibility to work Weekend and holidays to meet business needs
  • High volume laboratory experience preferred


Physical demands and workplace


  • Hours and days may vary depending on operational needs.
  • Standing or sitting for long periods of time may be necessary.
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials, blood specimens and instruments with moving parts, heating or freezing elements, and highspeed centrifugation.
  • Repetitive manual pipetting may be necessary.
  • Some lifting (up to 25 pounds) may be necessary.


Salary : $135,000 - $155,000
