JOB SUMMARY
The Cannabis/Flower Packing associate will be responsible for receiving bulk cannabis flower shipments, accurately breaking them down into retail units, packaging, labeling, and preparing these units for sale in compliance with Michigan regulations. The role supports inventory accuracy, compliance with the CRA rules, and product integrity from bulk receipt to retail displays.
Qualifications / Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a regulated product environment (cannabis, pharmaceuticals, food manufacturing) is a plus. Experience with cannabis flower packaging especially helpful.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy (e.g., precise weighing, correct labeling, traceability).
- Comfortable using precision scales and following calibration/weight verification procedures.
- Good organizational and time-management skills; able to meet packaging goals and deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
- Able to follow written standard operating procedures (SOPs), maintain compliance, and keep accurate records.
- Basic math skills (weights, conversions, counts) and ability to read labels, lot numbers, and documentation.
- Physical requirements: able to lift/move bulk flower containers (specify weight), stand for extended periods, perform repetitive tasks, handle small-format packaging.
- Strong communication skills; able to work in a team, coordinate with inventory, compliance and retail staff.
- Reliable, punctual, detail-oriented; comfortable working in a regulated environment with traceability, documentation and compliance obligations.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive bulk flower inventory shipments. Verify delivery paperwork against the licensee’s records: strain name, batch/lot number, weight, supplier, harvest date (if applicable).
- Transfer bulk flower into the designated packaging workspace, maintain chain of custody and proper inventory segregation until packaged.
- Use commercial “legal for trade” scales (NTEP-certified and Michigan registered) for all weigh-outs.
- Weigh out specified retail units with high accuracy.
- Package each retail unit in containers/bags that meet regulatory standards. Be aware that even flower may be subject to labeling/packaging rules.
- Label each packaged unit with required information
- Maintain packaging area cleanliness and follow SOPs for handling cannabis flower: keep surfaces free of cross-contamination, maintain proper storage conditions (humidity, light, temperature) to preserve product quality.
- Maintain inventory of packaging supplies (containers, labels, stickers, scales calibration records) and notify supervisor when supplies are low or calibration is due.
- Follow first-in, first-out (FIFO) inventory rotation to minimize product aging or loss of potency.
- Keep accurate records of lot/trace numbers, quantities packaged, weights recorded, waste or rejects, and transfer of packaged units to retail inventory / shelf.
- Assist with internal or CRA inspections or audits related to packaging, labeling, inventory flow and weighing compliance.
- Continuously look for process improvements to increase accuracy, reduce waste, improve throughput, and ensure ongoing compliance with CRA rules.
