Project Manager Job Description

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Taylor Electric Company has been in business since 1922, performing residential, commercial, industrial, and maintenance electrical work throughout the Chicagoland area. Our early successes positioned us to grow into larger, more complex projects, including nationally recognized architectural landmarks such as Soldier Field, Guaranteed Rate Field, and the University of Chicago.

We are a long-standing, established contractor currently in a phase of intentional growth and operational improvement, particularly within our accounting and financial processes. As we continue to scale, our focus is on building systems that are accurate, compliant, and sustainable long-term.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Project Manager manages the full lifecycle of electrical projects from hand-off to final closeout. This role ensures work is completed within budget and on schedule through rigorous financial tracking and project documentation. Success is measured by high productivity, strong field relationships, and the protection of company interests through precise AIA progress billing, RFI, and Change Order management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Budget & Schedule Control: Drive project progress to ensure completion is on time and within the defined scope and budget; monitor real-time job costs and labor productivity.
  • RFI & Change Order Calculations: Identify project ambiguities or design conflicts early. Draft and track Requests for Information (RFIs). Leverage RFI responses to support, justify, and precisely calculate Change Orders using Accubid Classic.
  • Progress & AIA Billing: Manage project financials accurately by drafting, reviewing, and submitting monthly AIA progress billings (G702/G703) to ensure consistent cash flow.
  • Field Leadership: Visit job sites regularly to track progress and maintain a strong, collaborative relationship with Foremen to ensure alignment with project goals and project data accuracy.
  • Operational Reporting: Ensure all project-related documentation (submittals, RFIs, daily logs) is accurate, up-to-date, and integrated into Foundation and Procore systems to support our financial reporting and intentional growth goals.
  • Risk Management: Mitigate potential site-specific risks by ensuring all field deviations are formally documented, tracked via Bluebeam, and formally approved to prevent unbilled re-work.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, owners, and GCs, ensuring clear communication and alignment throughout the project.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Technical Literacy: Expert ability to read and interpret complex electrical blueprints, single-line diagrams, and construction specifications to proactively identify potential RFI needs before they impact the schedule.
  • Systems & Estimating Mastery: A disciplined approach to tracking KPIs, performing takeoffs, and using specialized construction software to measure project success.
  • Relationship Builder: Proven ability to motivate field teams, collaborate with electrical foremen, and manage diverse stakeholder expectations.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 3–5 years of Project Management experience within the electrical construction industry.
  • Proven proficiency with construction management platforms (such as Procore or equivalent) and digital plan-viewers (such as Bluebeam).
  • Hands-on familiarity with electrical estimating software (e.g., Accubid Classic) and construction accounting ERPs (e.g., Foundation, Sage, or Viewpoint) is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of AIA billing structures, Chicago electrical codes, and construction safety standards.
  • Ability to travel to various job sites throughout the Chicagoland area.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent field experience.
