Job Summary:
To design, initiate, and coordinate Idaho’s agricultural market and economic development programs; perform related work.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. International and domestic marketing. Analyzes foreign and domestic market demand, specific market requirements, entry points, trade barriers, and cultural and business practices; collects, prepares, and disseminates market research reports, foreign and domestic trade leads, up-to-date contracts with importers, distributors, wholesalers, and retailers; develops proposals for funding under federal export and domestic marketing grants; negotiates, plans and executes international and domestic food and agricultural trade shows; consults with farmers, ranchers, rural entrepreneurs, community leaders and economic development professionals on projects to stimulate new jobs and rural economic growth; identifies rural community needs and develops strategic plans for enhancing agricultural resources; identifies state and federal grants and private and commercial loans to assist with rural projects; designs and implements projects to promote Idaho food and agricultural products. 2. Product marketing. Consults with agricultural and food producers, processors, suppliers, commodity organizations, universities and other state and federal agencies on strategies for adding value to Idaho commodities, on ways to improve transportation systems for moving commodities to market, and on marketing promotion opportunities; provides marketing trends and methods to agricultural and food producers, processors, and suppliers; develops and disseminates market reports and trade leads; compiles statistical market information to determine market opportunities for Idaho; assists with research on new products and crops considering Idaho climate, soil types, water availability, and production factors; provides agricultural clients information, training, and project technical assistance using state and federal agencies, universities, and industry groups; updates trade directories; develops agricultural trade marketing newsletters, brochures, and publications to inform producers, processors, and buyers; develops and conducts workshops and conferences.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Good knowledge of business management. Some knowledge of marketing theory, systems and methods. Experience: planning, organizing, and implementing a marketing program; creating and organizing seminars and promotional events such as trade shows and trade missions; compiling and analyzing data to determine market feasibility; developing written reports; preparing and giving public presentations.
