What You'll Do:

 

As the Dental Hygienist, you will provide professional, high-quality dental hygiene care and patient education to a broad range of patients in accordance with established dental hygiene protocols, accepted standards of care, and the scope of service. You will also support the organization's mission of providing quality healthcare services to medically underserved communities while maintaining patient rights, safety, privacy, confidentiality, and excellent customer service.

 

Your Accountabilities in the Role:

 

  • Evaluates patients and implements dental hygiene treatment regimens under the supervision of the Dentist, documenting findings, treatments, and outcomes accurately and timely.
  • Performs comprehensive dental hygiene assessments and preventive services, including medical history review, dental and periodontal charting, patient screening, vital signs as required, prophylaxis, scaling and root planning, and other services within the scope of practice.
  • Provides oral health education and preventive care guidance to patients to promote healthy behaviors, proper oral hygiene, and improved long-term dental health.
  • Documents patient information and treatment activities, including chief complaints, patient observations and reactions, dental procedures, laboratory procedures, and appropriate follow-up.
  • Maintains a safe, clean, and properly equipped clinical environment by cleaning and sterilizing instruments, maintaining assigned operatories, restocking supplies, and performing routine cleaning and maintenance of dental equipment.
  • Supports patient care and clinical operations by assisting with patient intake, transfer, and discharge processes and responding appropriately to emergency situations or adverse developments during treatment.
  • Participates in Quality Improvement activities and supports compliance with organizational, clinical, safety, infection control, HIPAA, and other applicable policies and procedures.
  • Provides professional, respectful, and patient-focused service while protecting patient rights, safety, privacy, and confidentiality and supporting the organization's mission and values.

 

Position Requirements:

 

  • Education: Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) from an accredited program with a current license to practice in the state of Michigan.
  • Experience: 1 year of previous dental hygiene experience preferred. Must complete appropriate continuing education units as required to maintain licensure and remain current with advances in dental hygiene practice.
  • Certifications: Current Michigan Dental Hygienist License required. Current CPR certification required.
  • Functional Skills: Strong patient assessment, dental hygiene, documentation, organization, data entry, typing, and patient care skills. Ability to manage workload effectively in a stress-filled environment while maintaining accuracy and quality of care.
  • Technology Skills: Ability to effectively use computer systems and applications, including Microsoft Office 365 and dental/clinical systems, to document and maintain patient information and support patient care activities.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively, professionally, and courteously with patients, co-workers, dental providers, and the general public. Ability to understand and communicate routine medical and dental information and follow oral and written instructions.

Pay/Salary: Salary is commensurate with proven expertise.

Reports To: Director of Dental Services

 

Core Hours: 7:15 am – 6:00 pm (Mon to Wed) 7:15 am – 5:00 pm (Thursdays)

 

Typical Work Week: M-T; 40 hours per week.
