Hamish Murray Construction is hiring a Director of Construction to lead our talented field team!
 
Key Details:
  • Salary: $125,000 - $150,000/year DOE
  • Location: Portland, OR (office-based with regular travel to job sites)
  • Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday
  • Benefits: 100% employer-paid health insurance (employee only), profit-sharing bonus, company vehicle, 401(k) plan with 4% safe harbor, paid vacation, and company-provided equipment (computer and phone)

Who You Are: You’re a seasoned construction leader with a sharp eye for quality, a mind for strategy, and a heart for mentorship. You know how to balance budgets, timelines, and technical details while inspiring your team to deliver exceptional results. You’re comfortable in both the boardroom and on the job site, and you bring a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset to every challenge. 
 
Other qualifications include:
  • 10 years in construction management, with 5 years in a senior leadership role
  • Proven success in managing large-scale residential projects
  • Strong leadership, communication, and technical skills
  • Proficiency in construction management software and blueprint interpretation
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field (preferred)
  • A valid driver’s license 
 
What You’ll Do: As the Director of Construction, you will oversee all production operations, lead a team of field professionals, and ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards. As part of the executive leadership team, you will play a key role in strategic planning, process improvement, and operational excellence.
 
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Lead and mentor Superintendents, Carpenters, and Support Staff
  • Serve as part of the executive leadership team, participating in strategic planning
  • Conduct site visits and ensure quality control and compliance
  • Provide oversight on project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation
  • Develop and refine production processes for efficiency and profitability
  • Provide technical guidance and customer support to field teams
  • Step in to manage projects during staff absences
  • Serve as the first point of contact for clients in situations escalated above the superintendent level
  • Nurture a team of trade partners and vendors, holding them to our standards, and bring in new ones where needed
