Position Title:
Private Duty Caregiver (Non-Medical In-Home Care)
Reports To:
Care Manager / Client or Family / Agency Supervisor
Job Summary:
The Private Duty Caregiver provides compassionate, one-on-one non-medical support and assistance with daily living activities to clients in their homes. This role focuses on promoting comfort, independence, safety, and quality of life for individuals who may be elderly, disabled, recovering from illness, or living with chronic conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs):
Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs):
- Bathing, grooming, dressing.
- Toileting and incontinence care.
- Mobility assistance (transferring, walking, repositioning).
- Feeding and meal assistance.
Perform Light Housekeeping Duties:
- Meal planning and preparation.
- Laundry and linens.
- Dishwashing and kitchen cleanup.
- Light vacuuming and dusting.
Provide Companionship and Emotional Support:
- Engage in conversation and recreational activities.
- Accompany clients on walks, errands, or appointments (if permitted).
Ensure a Safe Environment:
- Monitor for fall risks and general safety concerns.
- Assist with medication reminders (as per care plan; no direct administration unless certified).
Observe and Report:
- Document daily care tasks and report changes in client condition to family or supervisor.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA guidelines (if agency-affiliated)
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum age 18 (or as required by state law).
- Previous caregiving experience (formal or informal).
- Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license (if travel is required).
- Ability to lift, move, or support clients (may require lifting up to 50 lbs).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Home Health Aide (HHA) certification (not always required).
- CPR and First Aid Certification.
- Experience with dementia, Alzheimer’s, stroke recovery, or physical disabilities.
- Familiarity with mobility aids (wheelchairs, walkers, Hoyer lifts).
Work Environment & Conditions:
- In-home care setting (client’s residence).
- May involve exposure to pets, stairs, smoke, or other household conditions.
- Shifts may vary (day, evening, overnight, live-in).
- Part-time, full-time, or flexible scheduling available.
