Position: Equipment Specialist
Series/Grade: NH-1670-III, (GS 12/13 Equivalency)
The Air Force Global Strike Command staff in Albuquerque, NM is searching for an Equipment Specialist to fill as a technical services advisor on complex and sophisticated nuclear missiles/warhead and gravity bomb systems/equipment. Description of Position: To serve as a Major Command (MAJCOM) technical services advisor on complex and sophisticated nuclear missiles/warhead and gravity bomb systems/equipment. Provides expertise for material management of assigned equipment in the areas of weapon systems design, quality control, logistics, maintenance, and sustainment.
Position Responsibilities:
- Administers the Air Force’s Unsatisfactory Report (UR) Center. As the senior technical expert, receives URs from all field units, develops/maintains database, track failure modes, establishes trend analysis, coordinates action, approves, and distributes results.
- Evaluates design changes, analyzes corrective action, determines adequacy and completeness of action taken to resolve field reported deficiencies and recommends changes as required to ensure proper solution.
- Participates as the MAJCOM's representative in site visits to field units by DTRA, DOE, and National Laboratories personnel.
- Serves as the subject matter expert and Technical Content Manager for assigned nuclear weapons technical publications for higher and lower echelons involved in the management of JNWPS technical manuals. Interprets policy inputs from Joint Staff, DOE, USN, DTRA, authors corresponding AF level inputs, and recommends changes.
- Provides technical expert management of DOE designed equipment to include nuclear weapons trainers, disablement equipment, testers, and other support equipment introduced into the AF inventory.
Desired Skills/Expertise:
- Extensive knowledge of a wide range of maintenance concepts, policies, principles, guidance, procedures, techniques, and methodologies pertaining to the nuclear stockpile, nuclear weapon support systems, and nuclear weapons delivery systems.
- Knowledge of the mission, roles, functions, organizational structures, and operation of DOW and AF organizations.
- Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures to include extensive knowledge of AF and MAJCOM responsibilities for nuclear surety.
- Ability to analyze, plan, and adjust work operations to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources.
- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy, both orally and in writing; to establish and maintain positive relationships between diverse organizations; and represent the Air Force in a positive and professional manner.
- Skill in analyzing and interpreting engineering drawings, technical manuals, and technical data; and, identifying and analyzing complex technical problems and developing innovative solutions.
Conditions of Employment:
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI Security Clearance with Special Access Program approvals.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position under the Civilian Drug Testing Program.
- Occasional travel away from regular duty location may be required.
- May be required to work irregular duty hours including evenings, weekends, or holidays.
Pay: $90,479.00 - $117,625.00 per year
