Looking for off shift metallography lab technicians; preliminary training will be done on 1st shift for approximately 6-months to a year. Off shift includes 2nd, 3rd, and weekend crew.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily preparations of metallographic specimens, which includes sectioning, hot and cold mounting, grinding, polishing, and acid etching of castings and forgings.
- Operate preparation equipment, such as, but not limited to abrasive wet cut-off saws, manual and automatic grinders and polishers.
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and instructions to determine the most efficient sample preparation method and inspection requirements.
- Perform image analysis of samples using optical and stereo microscopes.
- Record and report data into electronic systems.
- Collaborate with engineers, customers, and technicians to ensure correct preparation methods, understand requirements, and define work scope.
- Maintain lab equipment, supplies, and clean workspace to provide a safe working environment and maximize efficiency.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures to ensure quality and safety standards are maintained.
- Participate in external and internal auditing as needed.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution with a minimum of two years of consistent work experience or six months of manufacturing work experience, OR Associates/Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
- This position is subject to the Interna; Traffic and Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- Degree in a STEM related discipline
- 1 years of lab experience in a manufacturing environment
- Capable of utilizing Microsoft Office Suite and result submission programs
- Must have a desire to learn and collaborate in a test lab or manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work in both a self-directed and team environment.
- Mechanically inclined - capable of tightening saw blades, clamps and using basic hand tools.
- Strong verbal and written communication
