Thermal Processing Technician (Aerospace Finishing)

Howmet Aerospace (Winsted, CT)
Winsted, CT Full Time
POSTED ON 10/16/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 2/13/2027

Step into a day running the heart of our thermal processing operation

As a Thermal Processing Technician, you’ll move parts from clean to complete. Your shift begins by confirming parts are ultrasonically cleaned, dried, and ready. You’ll set furnaces to exact operation-sheet parameters, load work, and monitor and verify heat-treat charts. Between cycles, you’ll record calibration checks, update quality records, and keep the production schedule on track. You’ll also execute finishing processes—airflow, waterflow, and shot peen—then perform visually intensive inspections before parts continue downstream.

What you will do

  • Operate heat-treat furnaces and the ultrasonic degreaser; ensure parts are cleaned and fully dried before loading.
  • Configure and run furnaces precisely to operation-sheet requirements; verify and sign off heat-treat charts.
  • Execute the heat-treat production schedule and keep stakeholders informed of progress.
  • Perform certified special processes including shot peen, airflow, and waterflow; set up and run each per spec.
  • Inspect materials to operation-sheet criteria; conduct high-attention visual inspections.
  • Troubleshoot issues and collaborate with Quality Engineering or Special Processes Engineering as needed.
  • Maintain complete quality records, including calibration checks and serial number entries in the heat-treat database.
  • Unpack and load material; review totes/liners and replace when necessary; split routers as required.
  • Support 6S audits and keep the area clean, including end-of-shift cleanup.
  • Follow all Employee Handbook policies; actively support EHS and Quality programs.
  • Maintain FPI Level I and/or Visual Inspection certification and acceptable attendance.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

What you bring

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Comfort with math (add/subtract/multiply/divide, decimals, fractions) and using basic formulas.
  • Ability to read and apply charts, tables, drawings, specifications, and schedules; create simple diagrams.
  • Experience with computers and scanning devices; use of adjustable measuring instruments.
  • Skill in checking reports, forms, and records where interpretation of basic data is required.

Physical demands

  • Handle parts from 1 to 60 pounds using mechanical/manual assist as needed.
  • Pass a visual acuity test; perform repetitive motion of hands, wrists, and arms.

Compensation, shifts, and training

  • Minimum starting pay: $21.00 per hour.
  • Shift differentials: $2.00/hour for 2nd shift; $3.00/hour for 3rd shift.
  • Ability to train on 1st shift for several months if required.
  • External hires eligible for a $3,000 sign-on bonus.

Benefits from day one

  • Medical coverage starting on day one; plus Dental and Vision.
  • Vacation and additional time-off benefits.
  • Excellent 401(k) match.
  • Growth potential and a Referral Bonus Program.
  • Overtime incentives.

Our quality mindset

The parts you process support transportation, national defense, and critical energy infrastructure. Lives and livelihoods depend on our reliability. If something is nonconforming: don’t accept it, don’t produce it, and don’t pass it forward.
