SUMMARY OF ROLE
Howell’s Heating & Air Commercial Construction Sheet Metal Helper supports the installation of sheet metal ductwork and related components on commercial construction and renovation projects. This role works under the direction of experienced installers or foremen to assist with measuring, cutting, assembling, and securing duct systems according to project specifications and safety standards. The Install Helper is responsible for maintaining a clean and organized job site, transporting materials, and using basic hand and power tools to aid in the efficient and accurate completion of HVAC system installations. This position requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn and grow within the HVAC trade.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
include but are not limited to:
- Assist with layout, measurement, and installation of sheet metal duct systems on commercial job sites
- Load, unload, and stage materials
- Use hand tools and power tools (snips, shears, drills, etc.) to cut, bend, and fit ductwork
- Support the assembly and hanging of ducts using proper support, hangers, and fasteners
- Maintain clean and organized job sites and work vehicles
- Follow all safety procedures and company policies while on-site
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors
- Collaborate with staff to develop and implement best practices
- Ad hoc duties as needed
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Has a background in the HVAC industry or similar trade
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written, with an ability to actively listen
- Basic knowledge of sheet metal tools and equipment
- Ability to measure accurately and perform basic math
- Familiarity with construction and HVAC terminology
- Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 75 lbs
- Capable of working at heights, on ladders, and in tight spaces
- Strong work ethic and reliability
- Ability to take direction and work as part of a team
- Willingness to learn and grow within the HVAC trade
- Ability to follow procedures and ensure compliance
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or educational equivalent
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Basic mechanical aptitude
- Ability to successfully pass a background check and other pre-employment screening
- CPR and first aid certified or agreeable to become certified
ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior experience in construction, sheet metal, or HVAC installation
- OSHA 10 certification
- Enrollment in or completion of a trade school or apprenticeship program
- Familiarity with HVAC blueprints or mechanical drawings
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 pounds regularly
- Frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Must be able to climb ladders and work from heights, including rooftops or scaffolding
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including heat, cold, dust, and confined spaces
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to operate tools and equipment safely
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required for the job
