Clinical Informatics Lead

Howard University Hospital  |  Washington, DC

Role Summary

As the Clinical Informatics Lead at Howard University Hospital, you will be the vital link between our clinical teams and our information technology — guiding the design, optimization, and governance of the health information systems that support safe, high-quality, equitable, and efficient patient care across inpatient, outpatient, and ancillary settings. Reporting to the Clinical Applications Manager, you will translate frontline clinical needs into practical informatics solutions that improve care delivery, reduce clinician burden, and keep HUH aligned with evolving regulatory and accreditation requirements.

If you are an informatics professional who thrives at the intersection of clinical workflow, technology, and patient safety, this is your opportunity to help shape the digital backbone of care at one of the nation’s most storied academic medical centers.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide day-to-day guidance for clinical informatics initiatives across the organization, and establish and maintain standards for clinical content, workflows, and system configuration
  • Lead optimization of HUH’s electronic health record (EHR) and related clinical applications to support evidence-based care, regulatory compliance, and clinician efficiency
  • Lead clinical validation, user acceptance testing (UAT), and go-live support for informatics initiatives
  • Analyze clinical workflows across inpatient, outpatient, and ancillary settings, and evaluate approved applications and tools to improve quality, safety, and outcomes while minimizing clinician burden
  • Partner with quality, safety, and risk teams to ensure informatics solutions advance patient safety initiatives
  • Collaborate with quality to identify and define clinical metrics, dashboards, and regulatory reporting requirements, and support interoperability and care coordination initiatives, including health information exchange and data sharing
  • Identify and address informatics issues affecting care delivery, safety, or clinician satisfaction
  • Provide direct guidance and professional development to the clinical informatics team
  • Support enterprise informatics strategy in alignment with clinical quality, operational efficiency, and patient experience goals

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Information Technology, Informatics, Analytics, or another healthcare-related field
  • Minimum of five (5) years of clinical workflow experience in a healthcare delivery setting
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in clinical informatics, IT, and/or analytics — including EHR implementation, optimization, or clinical systems leadership
  • In-depth knowledge of EHR functionality and clinical information systems
  • Demonstrated ability to translate clinical needs into functional system and workflow requirements
  • Demonstrated experience working within hospitals, health systems, ambulatory networks, or integrated delivery organizations
  • Familiarity with healthcare data standards, interoperability concepts, and clinical quality measures
  • Proven ability to lead interdisciplinary teams and influence clinical practice through informatics
  • Strong communication, cross-functional collaboration, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Board certification or advanced training in clinical informatics and analytics preferred
