JOB SUMMARY
This position performs school-based duties associated with the daily operation of the media center. Employees in this classification function at an entry level capacity and perform basic clerical/bookkeeping duties associated with the retrieval of information, stocking and maintenance of materials, and the assistance of patrons. Performs related work as directed including assisting students with technology and good communication skills.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Operates computer on a daily basis with reasonable accuracy and speed.
- Processes incoming media materials.
- Repairs print and non-print materials.
- Assists students and staff in the use of media center, its materials, and equipment.
- Attends training and other workshops as designated by supervisor.
- Prepares reports, files, and other correspondence on a timely and regular basis.
- Assists in inventory of materials and equipment.
- Supervises routine activities in the media center in support of the Media Specialist.
- Re-shelves returned media materials.
- Plans for and helps organize exhibits, book fairs, and other displays in the media center, allowing the center to represent the many activities of the school.
- Maintains inventory control, monitoring of bar coded materials and reconciling any discrepancies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent. Two (2) to four (4) months previous experience and/or training involving library work. Or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training that provides the required knowledge and abilities. A strong interest in technology is essential for this position.

- Knowledge of various media materials.
- Knowledge of rules, policies and procedures and responsibilities of position.
- Skill in the use of computers and software applications related to the essential functions of the job.
- Skill in effective communication, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to operate and provide problem solving skills for a variety of media equipment.
- Ability to exchange information for the purpose of obtaining information or clarifying details. Performs such within well-established policies, procedures and standards.
- Ability to operate, maneuver, and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.
- Ability to utilize a variety of reference data and information.
- Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Ability to communicate well. Involves routine work according to clearly prescribed standard practices, with some latitude for independent judgment.
- Ability to exercise the judgment required in situations characterized by repetitive or short cycle operations covered by set procedures or sequences.

SALARY/TERMS/BENEFITS:
- 190 day work year; 7.5 hours per day.
- Salary Range: Grade 35 (placement on salary schedule based on related years of experience). Up to ten years allowed. The stated salary range reflects the opportunity for pay over the course of the employee's tenure. For external candidates, the top pay is not a potential starting salary.
