CLASS DESCRIPTION:
Performs professional level recreation services work, which may include supervision, under general supervision from an administrative or technical superior. Work includes overseeing the safe and efficient operation of activities at school and department recreational facilities, parks and private recreational facilities; or overseeing the operation of programs in specific functional areas under the direction of a recreation supervisor. Assists in analyzing marketing data for program promotion and customer service. Work also includes the supervision of contingent, part-time staff and volunteers; overseeing the approved budget; and preparing information for recreation supervisor for seasonal and fiscal reports.Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This employee does not supervise full-time staff. Provides direct supervision to contingent staff and professional service contractors.Bachelor Degree and one (1) year related experience or five (5) years of equivalent experience.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Prefer a Bachelor's Degree or two (2) years of college education in the recreation, sports management, physical education or related fields of study with leadership experience in an outdoors setting.
Proficient in recent Microsoft Office Suite applications Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP), Certified Youth Sports Administrator (CYSA), or Certified Program Planner (CPP) are preferred.

- Works and cooperates with co-workers and supervisors at all levels.
- Learns and performs all essential job functions accurately.
- Coordinates selected seasonal programs as assigned by supervisor.
- Works with State Sports Tourism Office and local tourism office to promote event programs regionally.
- Provide direct leadership for tournaments and events as deemed necessary.
- Provide customer service with regard to programming questions, as well as assist contractors/staff with participant information/supplies and materials.
- Prepare news release for upcoming programs.
- Coordinate with the Board of Education and county facilities to reserve program space and cancel when needed. Reviews all permits for conflicts.
- Provide customer service in regard to suitable programming, prepare program evaluations, and organize comments/complaints.
- Monitors the status of contractual arrangements.
- Work with other divisional recreation coordinators as a team to accomplish tasks most efficiently.
- Prepares administrative paperwork necessary for contingent staff.
- Monitors the status of employee paperwork.
- Assist supervisor with purchasing, warehousing and delivery of equipment and supplies.
- Distributes marketing and promotional items.
- Updates seasonal program information on the web page, when necessary.
- Recruit, hire, train, schedule and supervise part-time program staff.
- Provide direct supervision to contingent staff and professional service contractors.
- Assist division staff and lead divisional activities as required.
- Inputs programs into the seasonal brochures, checks for accuracy on the ActiveNet database and creates program fliers.
- Input staff payroll, handle inquiries about hours paid, prepare biweekly payroll report.
- Responsible for identifying and applying good sustainability practices into all aspects of Department operations.
- Proficient in ActiveNet permitting process, acts as back up for field permitting.
- Prepares and monitors the progress of work orders with park operation staff. Works daily with Park Operations staff to ensure optimal communication on sport and health event issues.
- Handle customer requests, inquiries, and concerns for department activities, with a focus on sports and health events programming.
- Prepares and monitors the progress of park ranger requests with Park Ranger supervisors. Works daily with Park Rangers to assure optimal communication on Sport and Health Event issues.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Works a flexible schedule which includes occasional evening and weekend hours.
- This position may be deemed essential in an emergency at the discretion of the director.
