Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Geotechnical Drilling Rig Operator role based in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. The Geotechnical Drilling Rig Operator is responsible for safely operating drilling rigs and related heavy equipment to support geotechnical projects, including soil investigation, mine grouting, and foundation work. Daily tasks include setting up and mobilizing drilling equipment, aligning and positioning rigs, assembling and disassembling drill strings and tooling, and monitoring drilling parameters to meet project specifications. The role also involves working with other materials, performing basic equipment maintenance and inspections, and completing required logs and documentation. The operator will collaborate closely with site supervisors, crew members and project managers to ensure safe work practices, adherence to jobsite procedures, and timely completion of field activities in varying weather and site conditions.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to operate and work around heavy equipment, including drilling rigs and related support machinery.
- Ability to lead the operation of the crew assigned to the equipment
- Experience with drilling operations, including handling drill rods, tooling, and safely advancing boreholes in various ground conditions.
- Knowledge of grout, slurries or other geotechnical applications.
- Basic equipment maintenance skills, including performing inspections, minor repairs, and routine service to keep rigs and support equipment in safe working order.
- Familiarity with construction or geotechnical jobsite safety practices, with a strong commitment to following company and regulatory safety requirements.
- Ability to read and follow work plans, field sketches and instructions from project supervisors or engineers.
- Physical ability to lift materials, work on uneven terrain, and perform manual tasks in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record; CDL or willingness to obtain a CDL is preferred.
- Prior experience in geotechnical drilling, concrete pumping, mining, or related construction fields is a plus.
