What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Manager - Construction position at Hovey Construction?
Project Manager – Residential Construction
Hovey Construction Inc.
Hovey Construction Inc. is looking for an experienced Project Manager to lead our residential construction projects from the ground up. If you thrive on keeping jobs on schedule, on budget, and above the bar on quality — and you're just as comfortable talking specs with a subcontractor as you are talking selections with a client — we want to hear from you.
What You'll Do
Project Planning & Scheduling
- Build and manage detailed project plans, timelines, and schedules using Softplan for residential builds
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers to hit every project milestone
- Oversee material procurement and delivery so work never stalls waiting on the job site
- Keep every phase of construction compliant with applicable codes, permits, and regulations
Budget & Cost Management
- Create, manage, and track project budgets to keep costs within scope
- Prepare and review cost estimates, purchase orders, and change orders with accurate documentation
- Monitor expenses and flag budget concerns before they become problems
Team Leadership & Coordination
- Lead and coordinate subcontractors and on-site crews to keep productivity and timelines on track
- Run regular site meetings to review progress, resolve concerns, and get ahead of issues
- Serve as the calm, clear voice that keeps communication flowing between all parties on-site
Quality Control & Safety
- Oversee quality control across every phase to meet construction standards and client expectations
- Conduct regular site inspections against plans and specifications
- Enforce safety protocols on-site in compliance with OSHA and local regulations
Client Relations & Communication
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the build
- Guide clients through material, finish, and upgrade selections, and document decisions accordingly
- Manage scope changes with proper documentation and pricing adjustments
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain detailed records: contracts, change orders, timecards, invoices, and daily logs
- Deliver weekly or bi-weekly project updates to senior management
- Track and secure all required permits, inspections, and approvals
Vendor & Subcontractor Management
- Source and hire subcontractors for each phase of the project
- Evaluate subcontractor performance against quality, safety, and scheduling standards
- Manage vendor relationships and negotiate favorable contract terms
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience managing residential construction projects from start to finish
- Working knowledge of Softplan (or similar project management/scheduling software)
- Strong understanding of construction codes, permitting, and OSHA safety standards
- Solid budgeting, estimating, and cost-tracking skills
- Excellent communication skills — you can talk to a crew, a client, and subcontractors with equal confidence
- A track record of leading teams and holding subcontractors accountable
