A substitute teacher provides continuity of instruction and a safe, orderly learning environment when the regular teacher is absent. Working on an on-call, as-needed basis across Erin Elementary, Tennessee Ridge Elementary, Houston County Middle, and Houston County High, the Substitute Teacher follows lesson plans and manages classroom procedures. Your day may include supervising hall transitions, buses, cafeterias, playgrounds, and field trip settings to reinforce safety and positive behavior. You'll use the provided learning materials, leave feedback to teachers, and operate standard office equipment. This is an active role: you may stand or kneel beside students, and move quickly to redirect or de-escalate as needed. Success requires patience, effective and confidential communication with students, as well as the ability to maintain the confidentiality of both students and colleagues in a small community.
