What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Camp Counselor position at HOUSTONIAN CAMPUS LLC?
JOB SUMMARY
To provide fun & safe environment for the members children during their time in camp. This role is critical to maintaining the luxury standard and reputation of The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa while upholding the highest levels of discretion and professionalism.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Must be accountable for all children at all times
- Meet and greet members throughout the club
- Provide a fun & safe environment for the children
- Provide the members with what they want, in an acceptable amount of time while personalizing the service, and going above and beyond to exceed the members’ expectations
- Assisting members in choosing and deciding on youth programs and informing them of the youth related information
- Maintain a safe and healthy environment
- Maintain daily open communication with the parents (members)
- Seek input from parents (members) regarding appropriate camp programs and routines and report feedback to supervisor on a consistent basis to ensure a fun and safe camp experience
- Report any sensitive matters or situations to a supervisor immediately
- Responsible for creating a fun, safe, and inclusive environment for all campers while leading daily activities and supervising assigned groups. Counselors serve as positive role models, ensure camper safety, and help create a memorable camp experience through engagement, encouragement and teamwork.
- Other duties or tasks assigned by your supervisor that are related to the Youth Department and the Houstonian Campus
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Have at least one year of previous experience in camp/recreation/child care. (preferred)
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills
- Well-developed observation and reporting skills
- Observant, attentive and motivated
- Professional Appearance
- Must be able to push, pull and lift over 30 pounds on a consistent basis
- Must be able to stand for long periods at a time
- Must have ability to handle multiple tasks
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Exceptional childcare skills
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have ability to nurture positive relationships with children
- Must have the ability to interact with children in a positive, sensitive and respectful manner
- Must have good judgment
- Must have ability to effectively supervise children and all areas accessible to children
- Ability to work within a team and accept and provide supervision and direction when necessary
- Effective time management skills
- Ability to respond to parents in a sensitive, supportive and professional manner
- Must be available to work varied shifts, based on the needs of the business, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
Licenses and/or certifications
- CPR Adult & Child/First Aid before the first day of camp (provided on campus)
- Sexual Harassment Online Course completed before the first day of camp (provided on campus)
- Seasonal New Hire Training (provided on campus)
PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to meet the following minimum physical requirements for at least an eight-hour shift:
- Physical Stamina: Frequent standing, walking, climbing of ladders and stairs, kneeling, reaching overhead, lifting and carrying various objects weighing up to 30 lbs..
- Hearing / Speech: Must be able to effectively engage in one-on-one communication with guests, members, and customers and use a 2-way radio to communicate clearly and accurately with co-workers.
- Vision: Must be able to accurately read instructions, reports, and log sheets. Must be able to work with computers and PDAs in varying light conditions.
- Literacy: Must be able to analyze and process written information from a variety of sources and effectively communicate content of reports.
- Chemicals/Agents: Must be able to work safely with chemicals according to SDS sheets and all applicable laws, codes and regulatory requirements.
