Role Description
This is a full-time, on-off site role for a Legal Nurse Case Manager located in Houston, TX. The Legal Nurse Case Manager will play a key role in reviewing medical records, assessing mild to moderate Traumatic Brain Injury cases, and collaborating with legal and medical teams to ensure accurate and effective case management. Responsibilities include discharge planning, utilization management, and overseeing the coordination of medical-related legal matters. The role also involves providing assessments and support to ensure that patient outcomes align with best practices in nursing and medicine.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in Nursing and Medicine, with a strong understanding of medical terminology and patient care processes.
- Experience in Case Management, with the ability to coordinate care and manage cases effectively across interdisciplinary teams.
- Skills in Discharge Planning and Utilization Management to ensure efficient and effective transitions of care.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Registered Nurse (RN) license required, with certification in legal nurse consulting preferred.
- Experience in pain management, orthopedic, or rehabilitation settings is an asset.
- Head-to-Toe Medical Assessments
- Detailed initial evaluation (3–4 hours if needed)
- Catch every injury—even those doctors may overlook due to time constraints.
- Establish a clear, defensible baseline for the case.
- Medical Record Review & Analysis
- Identify gaps, errors, or inconsistencies.
- Provide a clear chronology of care.
- Translate complex medical records into plain language for legal strategy.
- Continuity of Care at Every Appointment
- Deliver summaries of care, copies of assessments, and updated records to every provider.
- Ensure all providers work from the same information.
- Prevent over-treatment, under-treatment, and duplicate care.
- Medication Reconciliation (Critical for TBI Patients)
- Cross-check prescriptions across all providers.
- Prevent dangerous drug interactions and overmedication.
- Improve safety and strengthen claims of negligence or need for ongoing support.
- Home & Lifestyle Impact Assessments
- Conduct home visits, family interviews, coworker and neighbor interviews.
- Provide first-hand documentation of how catastrophic injuries—especially traumatic brain injuries (TBI)—affect daily life, independence, and relationships.
