Quality Supervisor, QA/QC - Manufacturing & Machining

Job Summary:

Houston Machine and Thread is seeking a detail-driven, hands-on Quality Supervisor to own product quality and our quality system.

You will be accountable for making sure every part that ships meets the drawing, the specification, and the customer’s requirements. You’ll lead our inspection and receiving functions, manage nonconformances through to root cause and corrective action, and keep the ISO 9001 system healthy and audit-ready.

This position reports directly to senior leadership, independent of production, so quality decisions are made on the merits, not the schedule.

This is a floor-first role. You’ll spend your day in the shop and at the inspection bench, working alongside production leaders and craftsmen to catch problems early, fix them at the source, and keep good product moving to customers on time.

This is a high-visibility position with real authority, direct access to leadership, and significant room to grow as the company scales.

Responsibilities:

• Lead in-process and final inspection to make sure product meets drawings, specifications, and customer requirements before it ships.
• Oversee incoming material inspection, including material certifications and traceability.
• Manage nonconformances from containment through root cause, corrective action, and verification. Make sure the same problem doesn’t come back.
• Run the calibration program for gauges, thread gauges, and measuring equipment.
• Own supplier quality: evaluate, monitor, and hold outside processors and material suppliers accountable.
• Lead and develop the inspection and receiving team (inspectors and receivers report to you).
• Maintain the ISO 9001:2015 quality system, including internal audits, document control, and support for customer and registrar audits.
• Serve as the primary contact for customer quality concerns, complaints, and corrective action requests.
• Work with production leadership to balance quality and delivery without compromising either.
• Use quality data and ERP tools (JobBoss²) to spot trends and drive improvement.

Qualifications:

• 5 years of quality assurance or quality control experience in a manufacturing or machining environment; fastener or machine shop experience is a strong plus.
• Previous supervisory, lead, or quality management experience required.
• Working knowledge of fastener and material specifications, including ASTM A193, A194, and A320, and other common fastener standards.
• Familiarity with API and AWHEM requirements for energy-industry bolting (such as API 20E/20F) is strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of ISO 9001; experience maintaining or supporting a certified quality system required.
• Hands-on proficiency with inspection tools: micrometers, calipers, thread gauges, height gauges, and comparators. CMM experience is a plus.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, thread specifications, and material test reports.
• Experience with nonconformance reporting and root cause / corrective action methods (8D, 5 Why, or similar).
• Familiarity with PMI and material verification is a plus.
• ERP proficiency; JobBoss² or comparable manufacturing ERP experience preferred.
• Confident communicator who can work with production, leadership, and customers, and can hold the line on quality when it’s not the easy answer.
• Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

Pay: $27.00 - $40.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 – 60.0 per week
