What are the responsibilities and job description for the Specialist, Vocational Scholarships and Workforce Development position at Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo?
SUMMARY
Educational Programs administers the Show's multimillion dollar educational and scholarship programs. This position reports directly to and is under the supervision of the Senior Manager, Scholarship Programs. This position will lead all efforts for vocational education and workforce development projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Create the vision and plan for the future of the Vocational Program. This includes:
Reviewing current Show commitment to Vocational efforts to determine areas of growth.
Establish relationships with local vocational training providers, workforce development certification programs, and key local corporations to determine how HLSR can be engaged.
Serve as the lead contact with organizations like the Greater Houston Partnership and Upskill for collaboration and partnerships.
Serve as the lead staff member for the Vocational Task Force and/or other Task Forces that need to be established with HLSR volunteers.
Oversee Funded Vocational Scholarship Programming, to include:
Management of vocational scholarship application, review, and awarding process.
Serve as lead contact with community colleges that HLSR supports in the area of Vocational Education and build relationships with new potential colleges.
Assists with background research and analysis for Educational Contributions Review Committee.
Reads and maintains all vocational funding requests and reports. Prepares and presents written and oral summaries to the Educational Contributions Review Committee.
Oversees all elements of planning for vocational scholarship related events, including receptions, orientations, and career fair events.
Oversee elements of Vocational Scholarship Alumni programming, to include:
Reviewing, verifying, and processing eligible Life Membership requests.
Work as a team with the Specialist, Scholarship and Alumni Relations to create and execute social and continuing education opportunities for Vocational Scholarship Alumni.
Work as a team with the Specialist, Scholarship and Alumni Relations to carryout team-oriented projects such as:
Verifying scholar gradebooks, processing scholarship disbursements, monitoring email inboxes, and verifying scholarship recipient eligibility.
Prepares and maintains Educational Program spreadsheets, reports, and proposals as necessary.
Composes and prepares written correspondence as necessary.
Assists with other scholarship processes as needed and ad-hoc projects.
Assists with Show-related social receptions in the Tejas Room during the Show.
Assists with Show scholarship award events, luncheons, and receptions for various scholarship programs.
Confers with individuals, institutions, and groups to disseminate information and answers questions relating to all HLSR educational programs.
Prepares and manages budget as needed.
Completes special projects as assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee may be required to sit, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. During the Show, the employee may be required to frequently walk to various places on the grounds. The employee may be required to lift and/or move 15 or more pounds. Extended work hours required, especially during peak periods.
