MSAP Curriculum Designer 1 4400 W 18th St, Houston, Texas (US-TX), 77092, United States ID: 32509 Job Description Location: Hattie Mae White Department: School Choice - MSAP Area:District Wide Contract Months:12 Salary Range: $90,000.00 – $110,000.00 Academic Year: 25-26 JOB SUMMARY The MSAP Curriculum Designer is pivotal in propelling the implementation of the HISD Magnet Assistance School Program grant 2024 and the writing of TEKS aligned coursework for 6th and 7th grade for the 6 MSAP middle schools. The primary focus will be developing Houston ISD MSAP STEM & STEM+M curriculum, with specific emphasis on writing, revising and refining, to ensure alignment from Middle School to High School TEKS. This role will also serve as a liaison between the MSAP school STEM coordinators and the Magnet Cross Functional Teams, and school staff & stakeholders to effectively create and deliver standards-based, high quality professional development sessions aligned to the MSAP 6th and 7th grade STEM & STEM+M curriculum. MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 1. MSAP Curriculum Development: Design and create curriculum for 6th and 7th grade content area(s) and grade level band(s), ensuring alignment with Houston ISD's educational objectives, staTe TEKS and the MSAP grant requirements while working with department and central office personnel to align this curriculum from middle school to high school course requirements. 2. TEKS Alignment and Rigor: Write and revise 6th and 7th grade curriculum to ensure compliance with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards while maintaining a high level of academic rigor and depth of learning. 3. Regularly vet, review and revise existing curriculum to align to state standards and district expectations. Collaborate with curriculum department and central office staff to implement a districtwide continuum of instructional services for students in magnet programs. MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED 4. Evaluate curriculum and magnet programs, conduct needs analysis through a sensitivity lens to ensure grade-level appropriateness, cultural relevance and alignment from Middle School to High School, and serve as a subject matter expert. 5. Collaborate with teachers, principals, magnet coordinators, and regional staff regarding magnet curriculum and services in schools, advise on student placement and evaluation. Monitor systematic collection and analysis of student data to review achievement and evaluate effectiveness of districtwide instruction for students. 6. TEKS-Driven Professional Development: Design and deliver professional development sessions focused on internalizing state standards and alignment to NES model for assigned content area(s) and grade level band(s). 7. Other duties as assigned EDUCATION Bachelor's degree (Master’s degree preferred) WORK EXPERIENCE At least 3 years working in the district/central office of a large urban school district SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION Teacher Certification Strong communication and writing skills. Proficiency in social media platforms and management tools. Basic knowledge of graphic design software (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite). Experience in writing middle school curriculum. Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines. Creative and detail-oriented mindset with strong organizational skills. Office equipment (e.g., computer, copier) LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES Directs two or more levels of management in the development, deployment and ongoing management of key initiatives covering multiple major disciplines with direct accountability for results in terms of effectiveness, costs, methods, and employees. Establishes operational objectives and assignments for multiple disciplines/functional areas and possibly departments. Evaluates recommendations of others, deciding on course of action in ambiguous situations, and oversees the deployment of innovative solutions. Collaborates with senior leadership to develop strategies and broad departmental objectives; establishes methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for projects, programs, and people in the achievement of strategic objectives. WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT Work involves the application of moderately complex procedures and tasks that are quite varied. Independent judgment is often required to select and apply the most appropriate of available resources. Ongoing supervision is provided on an "as needed" basis. BUDGET AUTHORITY No budget development activity is required. PROBLEM SOLVING Decisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude but are still subject to approval. Job is occasionally expected to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas. IMPACT OF DECISIONS Decisions have minor, small and possibly incremental impact on the department or facility. Errors are usually discovered in succeeding operations where most of the work is verified or checked and is normally confined to a single department or phase of the organizational activities resulting in brief inconvenience COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS Basic communication – very little communication required such as receiving basic instructions. Interactions are mostly with customers, own supervisor, and co-workers in own department. Information sharing – gives and receives information such as options, technical direction, instructions, and reporting results. Oversee and direct – serves as one of the organization's senior level spokespersons in area of expertise, defines and champions change initiatives, organizational strategies, services, policies, and practices. Interactions are typically with Top Management, the Board, and community and business leaders. CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS Takes routine or required customer actions to meet customer needs. Responds promptly and accurately to customer complaints, inquiries and requests for information and coordinates appropriate follow-up. May handle escalated issues passed on from coworkers or subordinates. WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements.
