A Civil Engineer Intern with Houston Engineering Inc. (HEI) will spend time in the field working on outdoor construction phase activities as well as a variety of in-office projects assisting engineers.
Job Description
As an intern, responsibilities may include some or all of the following:
- Assist with plan specifications and estimates as well as documenting construction activities.
- Work on survey crew and operate electronic survey instruments such as GPS and Total Station.
- Perform work in a variety of software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, ArcGIS, etc.
- Construction observation and data collection at different types of project sites.
- Assist with research, development and design of projects.
We strive to provide a personalized internship based on your area of interest. This may include learning how to do roadway design, geometric layout, drainage analysis, and erosion control.
Qualifications
- Enrolled in a Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering, Bioproducts and Biosystem Engineering, or related Engineering program.
- Completed coursework in general surveying and AutoCAD are preferred.
- Able to work extended periods of time in outdoor conditions.
- Above average math and communication skills.
- Valid driver's license and availability for overnight travel.

The estimated rate of pay is $22-$24 per hour, depending on experience.
