Reports to: Fleet Manager                                                    Date: 05/12/26

 

 

Summary and relationship to the curriculum: All classified positions will strengthen the delivery of instruction to support the district’s mission. This position serves in the role of managing the Transportation Department’s parts inventory and work-order activity for the school district. This position prioritizes school bus readiness and safety to ensure that students are transported in a safe, timely and efficient manner.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assists Fleet Manager with supervision and leadership of Fleet Mechanics.
  2. Reviews and assigns work orders on a daily basis with the Fleet Manager.
  3. Monitors mechanics’ performance to ensure quality repairs and productivity.
  4. Utilizes fleet management software to monitor vehicle maintenance, repairs, shop productivity, and maintenance costs.
  5. Maintains bus parts inventory, supplies, tools, and equipment while ensuring proper inventory controls and cost-effective purchasing based on price, quality, and availability.
  6. Ensures shop is maintained in a clean, organized, and safe manner.
  7. Adheres to all safety rules, regulations, and equipment, material, and product use guidelines.
  8. Follows assigned work schedules, including off-hour emergency
  9. Completes all tasks in a safe, timely, effective, and efficient
  10. Participates in training and professional development activities as required by school district, state, and federal regulations.
  11. Drives a school bus as needed.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation and Fleet Manager.

  1. Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required; bachelor’s degree or two-year technical school certification related to fleet management and/or maintenance preferred. Five years of experience in fleet and repair shop management.
  2. Certificate or License Required: Must possess a valid Georgia Commercial Driver License Class B with P, S and air brakes Must meet all requirements for school bus driver certification.
  3. Language Skills: Must have ability to read and comprehend job specific technical information, simple instructions, short correspondence, memos and position specific manuals. Must have ability to write correspondence and reports. Must have ability to effectively articulate and present information in one-on-one and small group
  4. Mathematical Skills: Must have ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole number, common fractions, and decimals. Must have ability to conduct position related data analysis. Must have ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. 
  5. Reasoning Ability: Must be able to facilitate the problem solving Must have ability to synthesize workable options from given facts, and assist in the development of workable solutions.
  6.  Technical Ability: Must have considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office and other job specified technologies.
  7.  Customer Service Skills: Must be able to interact effectively with colleagues, administrators, teachers, staff members, students using tactful yet effective skills. Must collaborate well with others and display a cooperative Must be service oriented and actively seek ways to assist others.

Professional Requirements: Must serve as a role model to students. Appropriate dress and grooming consistent with established standards required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, and lift. Occasionally, the employee must crouch or kneel. The employee must be able to exert or lift up to 50 pounds.

 

Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Frequent travel involves exposure to traffic and outdoor elements.

 

Travel to home sites, school sites, and other locations is required.

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently working in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
