Position Purpose
Under the direction of a Recycling Center Lead, a Drop Site Supervisor assists the public in the proper sorting and collection of recyclables and solid wastes at the five Houston County Drop Sites. The drop site supervisor assists customers with sorting and unloading items, assessing fees, collecting payment, and making change.
Distinguishing Characteristics
A Drop Site Supervisor, is a part time, temporary/casual employee who performs tasks both individually as well as in a group setting. Drop Site Supervisors may be assigned to work at various drop-sites and the Recycling Center on an as needed basis with no guarantee of assigned hours. Drop Site Supervisors may work for extended periods of time under adverse climatic conditions with varying weekend hours.1. Assist the public in the proper sorting and disposal of all recyclables, solid wastes and receive payment for disposal of waste in accordance with County fee schedule
2. Recognize and refuse the acceptance of hazardous waste materials
3. Issue payment (cash/checks) for aluminum redemption
4. Ensure safety measures and guidelines are followed including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
5. Load materials within legal parameters, prepares and delivers bills of lading to the Environmental Services Department
6. Unload and loads refuse, operates refuse compactor

- Must be able to work for extended periods of time under adverse climatic conditions
- Must be able to work under adverse environmental conditions (dust, smoke, fumes and noise)
- Expectations are to be trained in use and operation of recycling equipment (not including vehicles and furnace)
- Ability to utilize the available time to organize and complete work within given deadlines
- Ability to organize or follow a systematic method of performing a task
- Be punctual
- Maintains effective working relationships with County staff and
- Ability to access and read electronic communications.
- Ability to perform general arithmetic and make monetary change
- Effective and polite communication skills so as to communicate with the general public
- Must pass a criminal history background check
- Have a record of teamwork & customer service
