Director of Marketing & PR
The Opportunity
Houston Ballet is seeking a Director of Marketing & Public Relations (PR) to help shape the next chapter of one of the nation’s leading ballet companies.
As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for amplifying Houston Ballet’s artistic excellence, expanding its audiences, and strengthening its position as a global cultural force.
Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, the Director of Marketing & PR will translate artistic vision into audience engagement, revenue growth, and enduring brand equity.
This role calls for a strategic thinker, an inspiring team builder, and a data-driven decision-maker who believes that marketing in the arts is about building meaning, emotion, and long-term relationships.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Leadership
· Serve as a senior strategic partner to the Chief Marketing Officer
· Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners to champion and elevate the company’s programmatic and aesthetic vision
· Help ensure Houston Ballet shows up in the world as one cohesive, compelling brand
2. Audience Growth & Impact
· Design and implement comprehensive marketing and communications plans that drive revenue, attendance, and long-term patron loyalty
· Define new audience opportunities and deepen engagement with existing communities
· Monitor cultural trends and peer organizations to identify new pathways for growth
· Develop rigorous analytics and reporting systems to inform decision-making
· Leverage transactional data, segmentation, and research to refine targeting, pricing, and market positioning
· Partner with Development to align marketing efforts with institutional patron growth goals
3. Brand, Communications & Visibility
· Strengthen and evolve Houston Ballet’s brand in the local, national, and international marketplace
· Oversee PR efforts and media strategy
· Ensure cohesive storytelling across all touchpoints (digital, print, social, and experiential)
· Lead web strategy and build dynamic social media ecosystems that reflect the vibrancy of the company
· Cultivate meaningful relationships with local and national arts organizations
4. Team & Culture
· Help recruit, inspire, and lead a high-performing marketing team
· Create a culture of clarity, collaboration, accountability and innovation
· Invest in staff development and continuously evolve departmental capabilities
5. Financial Stewardship
· Develop and manage marketing budgets in collaboration with Finance
· Balance ambitious growth goals with disciplined fiscal management
· Ensure strategic allocation of resources to maximize impact
Who You Are
You are a strategic leader with a deep respect for artistic excellence and a clear understanding of how brand, data, and storytelling intersect to drive cultural impact.
You bring:
· 7 years of senior marketing and audience development leadership
· Deep expertise in subscription audience development with a proven track record of driving both subscription and single-ticket revenue growth
· Experience managing large-scale campaigns and cross-channel communications
· Strong brand sensibility and exceptional writing and editing skills
· Experience with marketing research and quantitative analysis
· Knowledge of social media strategy and digital marketing ecosystems
· Financial fluency and budget management expertise
· BA required
