Housing Trust is leading the effort to create a strong affordable housing market in the greater Bay Area as one of the region’s highest-volume nonprofit housing lenders. Serving people experiencing homelessness to renters to first-time homebuyers, we assist a wide range of residents with programs across the entire spectrum of housing issues. Position Overview
The Development and Communications Assistant (DCA) will report to the Chief Development and Impact Officer (CDIO) and will work closely with the Communications and Development team to provide strong administrative support for the overall operations of the Development and Communications department. The Development and Communications Assistant will be a critical member of the team, assisting with core tasks including planning and executing Housing Trust events, purchasing and updating marketing collateral, maintaining the website and social media, and managing contact lists.
Key Responsibilities
Communications (40%)
- Support marketing and outreach efforts by creating and sending segmented email blasts and newsletters, designing flyers, and updating marketing collateral.
- Assist the Communications Manager with social media content, primarily LinkedIn.
- Attend partner events, coordinate coverage with the team, take and edit photos, and prepare visual assets for social media and presentations using tools such as Canva and PowerPoint.
- Maintain and update the organization's website content.
- Support other communication projects and responsibilities as needed.
Department Administration (40%)
- Maintain the contact database in Salesforce, including data entry, record updates, and list segmentation.
- Support team efforts to ensure data integrity across all systems, including Salesforce and Box, coordinating with outside contractors as needed.
- Compile and report on analytics from social media, the website, and other platforms, including analysis and reporting as assigned.
- Process purchase orders, invoices, and payment requests for the department.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Events & Development (20%)
- Compile briefs for groundbreakings, grand openings, and other Housing Trust events.
- Manage pre- and post-event logistics for both in-person and virtual events.
- Support the Development Manager and Director in coordinating with event venues, caterers, AV providers, and other vendors.
- Assist the Development Manager with event-related communications with sponsors and guests.
- Track event attendance across platforms including Constant Contact, Eventbrite, and Salesforce.
- Provide support on event days.
- Maintain accurate event listings across all relevant internal and external calendars.
- Support the Development Manager in processing donations and payments.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field preferred; or 5 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in an office setting preferred.
- Proficiency in standard office software, including Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with WordPress or an equivalent content management system.
- Experience with, or enthusiasm for learning, CRM and database tools including Salesforce and Box.
- Experience with, or enthusiasm for learning, marketing and communications tools including Constant Contact or similar email marketing platforms and Canva or similar design software.
- Experience with project management tools such as Asana, or willingness to learn.
- Ability to manage and prepare digital photo assets for web and social media use.
- Comfort with or curiosity about using AI tools to support and streamline work.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with a high level of accuracy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively compile and present data.
- Understands and can articulate the organization's mission with enthusiasm.
- Operates with the highest degree of integrity.
- Effective at maintaining organized filing systems, both electronic and physical.
- Able to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders and work both independently and as part of a team.
Compensation
Housing Trust offers a competitive compensation package, including a bonus plan and benefits. This is a non-exempt, full-time position. The hourly range for this position is $31.73 - $38.46
