Our Sam Smith Memorial Summer Internship offers a potentially life-changing job opportunity for 3 East Kentucky youths, ages 18 to 21, who have “aged out” of the foster care system, have recommitted, or are disadvantaged by providing paid on-the-job training in residential construction.
Details & Expectations
- Intern with us for 8 weeks this summer - June 9 through Aug. 1. Note that priority is given to 18–21-year-olds who have been in the foster care system.
- Earn $13/hour benefits by interning 40 hours/4-day work week.
- Gain hands-on, real-world work experience in the construction trade.
- Work side by side with HDA carpenters on actual worksites framing & finishing new homes and completing home repairs/rehabs.
- Build a solid resume, acquire career skills, and earn a strong work reference from HDA that could lead to more employment opportunities!
- Have access to wraparound services through our partners and programs, providing mentorship, housing counseling, higher education, financial education, & more.
Qualifications
No construction experience required.
Must be 18 to apply. (Or will turn 18 before June 9, 2025.)
Open to 18- to 21-year-olds in Breathitt, Knott, Leslie, and Perry counties in Eastern Kentucky.
