JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Manager, Inspections, the Housing Inspector performs inspections for all housing units of the Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCVP) and Housing Administration to ensure quality, safe and affordable housing for residents. The Housing Inspector conducts housing unit inspections following the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) requirements. The ideal candidate for this role will enjoy interacting with clients, property owners, internal and external stakeholders from a broad range of socio-economic backgrounds.

PRINCIPAL ROLE AND RESPONSIBILTIES:
- Accurately documents unit conditions for all inspection types and clearly describes fail conditions.
- Coordinates with Housing Inspection Specialist to ensure that inspections and/or re-inspections occur within the required time.
- Reviews daily routes to maximize use of time and minimize travel and other expenses.
- Performs pre-inspections; advises landlords as to necessary repairs for units to be accepted into Housing Choice Voucher Program and conducts final inspections after abatement has been made.
- Completes HUD and Housing Authority of St. Louis County forms and reports as required.
- Ability to work independently with little supervision to include managing time and prioritizing duties as needed.
- Strong attention to details, able to work in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, TECHNICAL SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- An equivalent combination of experience and education that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
- Valid Missouri or Illinois driver’s license upon hire.
- Bondable and must be eligible for coverage under the Authority fleet auto insurance.
- Evidence of the practice of a high level of confidentiality.
- Computer skills in a Microsoft environment. Must include Excel, and Word.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The Housing Inspector will spend most of the time in the field and could involve intermittent physical activities including bending, reaching sitting, and walking during working hours. Additionally, this person will spend several hours each day seated at a PC. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable persons with physical disabilities to perform the job.

- This job includes desk duties, (primarily seated), and visits to sites and to public meetings.
