What are the responsibilities and job description for the Companion position at Househeld?
A warm, patient, and compassionate Companion is needed in Brooklyn to support an 82-year-old gentleman who is experiencing significant medical decline. He lives at home with his wife, who is overwhelmed by the level of care he now requires. This role is designed to help alleviate her daily responsibilities while ensuring he receives consistent, attentive support. This is a full-time, live-out position, Monday through Friday for approximately nine hours per day, with some weekends and occasional overnights.
The Companion will provide uplifting interaction, prepare meals and ensure he eats regularly, assist with mobility using a walker or wheelchair, monitor oxygen equipment, and engage him in meaningful conversation and mentally stimulating activities. Responsibilities also include accompanying him on short walks when possible and escorting him to his children’s and grandchildren’s nearby home. Light housekeeping and general tidying are required to help maintain a clean, safe, and calm environment for both Mr. and Mrs.
The home includes a friendly medium-sized Bernadoodle; dog walking is handled by others. Candidates should have prior experience with elder care and chronic medical conditions, be comfortable with mobility equipment and oxygen machines, and be available for occasional weekends and overnights. This position requires an encouraging, steady presence who can help lift the client’s spirits while providing much-needed relief and support to his wife. Compensation ranges from $35–$45 per hour, depending on experience. This opportunity is with very kind, respectful employers and is an immediate start.
