This is a cross-trained position designed for someone who wants to learn, grow, and become a valuable part of our entire team—not someone who is looking to work exclusively at a front desk.
Your primary responsibility will initially be supporting our front desk and assisting with the day-to-day administrative needs of our office. As you become comfortable in your role, you will progressively receive training in additional areas of our organization, including document processing, client intakes, declarations, basic immigration law, and other House Worker Center processes.
You will not be expected to learn everything at once. Training will be provided step-by-step as you develop your skills and become comfortable with each responsibility.
What You'll DoFront Desk & Client Support
Your initial focus will be providing professional and welcoming support to our clients and team, including:
- Answering and directing incoming phone calls
- Greeting and receiving clients
- Assisting clients with basic questions and directing them to the appropriate team member
- Assisting with scheduling appointments
- Managing front-desk communications and daily tasks
- Making copies, scanning, printing, and organizing documents
- Assisting with maintaining organized client files and office materials
- Providing general administrative support to the team
- Keeping the front desk and reception area organized and professional
Cross-Training & Professional Development
As you gain experience and demonstrate proficiency in your initial responsibilities, you will receive training to assist in other areas of House Worker Center.
Your training may include:
- Document Processing: Learning how to prepare, organize, and process documents according to House Worker Center procedures
- Client Intakes: Learning how to conduct client intakes and properly document information
- Declarations: Learning our procedures for preparing and assisting with client declarations
- Basic Immigration Law: Receiving foundational training in immigration law and learning how to understand and follow changes that may affect the communities and workers we serve
- Staying Current: Learning how to stay informed about changes in immigration policies, procedures, forms, and other relevant developments
- Administrative Processes: Learning House Worker Center's internal systems, procedures, and workflows
- Community Education: Developing knowledge that supports our organization's mission of educating workers and the community
- Department Support: Providing administrative and operational support to other members of our team when needed
- Additional Responsibilities: Taking on new tasks as your knowledge, skills, and confidence grow
Our goal is to develop you into a well-rounded team member who can support multiple areas of our organization while continuing to learn and grow professionally.
You will not be expected to perform all of these responsibilities at once. Cross-training will happen progressively, based on your performance, training, and readiness to take on additional responsibilities.

A Note About the Work Environment
This is not a low-pressure, repetitive office position.
Our work requires attention to detail, accountability, and the ability to perform accurately even when there are deadlines, changing priorities, demanding situations, or an increased workload.
You will receive training and support, but you will also be expected to take responsibility for your work, accept feedback and corrections, ask questions when you are unsure, and continuously improve.
As you become cross-trained, you will be trusted with increasingly important responsibilities. The ability to remain focused, professional, and accurate under pressure and scrutiny is an important part of succeeding in this position.
Our work is also constantly evolving. Immigration laws, policies, procedures, and government requirements can change. You will be expected to develop the habit of staying informed, learning new information, and keeping your knowledge current.
If you thrive in an environment where you are constantly learning, held to high standards, and given opportunities to grow, you may be a great fit for House Worker Center.

- Administrative support
- Office work

Spanish and English bilingual skills are strongly preferred.
Because we work with Spanish-speaking clients and are committed to serving and educating our community, being able to communicate comfortably in both English and Spanish is a valuable skill for this position.

Compensation & Growth
Starting Pay: $16–$18 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
After successfully completing your first three months, you will be eligible for a pay increase based on your performance, reliability, and development within the role.
