The House of Lebanon is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit Lebanese American Cultural Center located in the heart of Los Angeles, California. Our mission is to celebrate and advance the diverse and vibrant cultural heritage of Lebanon by connecting people of Lebanese ancestry to their roots, supporting youth leadership development, and strengthening our community through cultural programming, educational initiatives, and professional development opportunities.
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Grant Writer to join our team. This is a unique opportunity where your compensation will be funded directly through the grants you help secure. The ideal candidate is a strong writer with a passion for cultural preservation, immigrant communities, and nonprofit work, and knows how to translate that passion into compelling funding proposals.
Key Responsibilities
- Research, identify, and track grant opportunities from foundations, government agencies (both federal and state), and corporate giving programs aligned with our mission
- Write, edit, and submit high-quality grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and progress reports
- Develop and maintain a grants calendar to manage deadlines and reporting requirements
- Collaborate with the House of Lebanon President to align funding goals with organizational priorities
- Build and maintain relationships with funders and program officers
- Maintain accurate grant files and records in compliance with funder requirements
- Assist in developing program budgets to accompany grant applications
- Identify opportunities to include grant writer salary as an allowable expense within grant budgets
Target Grant Categories
The Grant Writer will pursue funding across the following areas:
- Cultural Arts and Preservation NEA (National Endowment for the Arts), California Arts Council, Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture, private foundations supporting MENA cultural programming
- Immigrant and Diaspora Communities Funders focused on Arab American, Middle Eastern, and immigrant community organizations (for example, Arab American Foundation, W.K. Kellogg Foundation)
- Youth Leadership and Education Foundations supporting youth development, mentorship, and civic engagement programs (example: Weingart Foundation, Ralph M. Parsons Foundation)
- Community Development Los Angeles city and county grants for neighborhood enrichment and civic programming
- Humanities and Heritage National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), California Humanities
- Corporate and Foundation Grants Local Los Angeles-based corporate foundations with community investment programs
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or related field (master’s preferred)
- Minimum 2–3 years of grant writing experience, preferably with cultural or community-based nonprofits
- Proven track record of successfully securing grants
- Strong research, writing, and editing skills
- Familiarity with Los Angeles and California nonprofit funding landscape
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects
- Passion for Lebanese culture, heritage, and community is a strong plus
- Experience with grant management platforms (e.g., Submittable, Foundant, or similar) preferred
