Job Description- Empowerment Specialist and Children's Programming Case Manager

Requirements:

  • BA in human services or equivalent experience required.
  • One year of professional experience providing services specifically to gaining self-sufficiency required
  • Must possess flexibility as well as understand healthy boundaries.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with Windows, Microsoft programs, Outlook.
  • Working knowledge of Waterloo/Cedar Falls resources and community agencies.
  • Valid Driver’s License and proof of automobile insurance

Supervisor: House of Hope Program Director

General Summary: The Empowerment Specialist, under direct supervision of the Program Director, works directly with individuals, both adults and children, to support their personal growth, stability, and progress. This role focuses on guiding participants to identify their strengths, set goals, and stay accountable to their progress—all while honoring their lived experiences through a trauma-informed approach. The Empowerment Specialist will use standard social work practice guidelines and adhere to the Social Work Code of Ethics in all work with program participants, including but not limited to assessment, documentation, development of individual service plans, and discharge plans.

Duties:

Meets with and builds trusting relationships with individuals through empathy, active listening, and House of Hope’s core values: respect, empowerment, stewardship, and accountability.

Connect individuals to appropriate community resources, services, and opportunities that support safety, stability, and long-term success.

Together with other Case Managers conducts intake process by screening applicants, conducting interviews, and supporting admission procedures to admit program participants.

Guide participants in navigating challenges related to housing, employment, transportation, health, family/childcare, and financial well-being.

Conducts weekly one-on-one meetings with participants, which include creating- personalized, Trauma-Informed, written action plans, and SMART goals to support progress.

Provide consistent encouragement and accountability, to model healthy support, for participants to follow through on their goals.

Track progress and adjust plans as needed to ensure continued growth and empowerment.

Coordinate and implement programming that addresses needs, healing, and growth potential for children at House of Hope.

Work with the volunteer coordinator to identify and train volunteers for short term programmatic childcare, mentors, and tutors.

Create and execute children’s group activities.

Work directly with partner organizations to obtain safe childcare, mentoring, or other programs and resources as appropriate.

Responsible for childcare room and maintain inventory of children’s supplies.

Tracks data of all children’s programming and supplies it as needed to team members.

Complete accurate and timely documentation of all participant sessions, contacts, and communications within 24–48 hours.

Communicate concerns regarding participants or programming to the Program Director in a timely and professional manner.

Assist in scheduling, organizing, and facilitating weekly group sessions, and life skills classes, including leading after-hours clinics twice weekly, for women and families.

Represent House of Hope’s mission, vision, and values to visitors, volunteers, donors, community stakeholders, and program participants.

Participate as needed in fundraising efforts of the organization along with House of Hope Team.

Provide general support as needed, including greeting the public, answering phones, and assisting with donations.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Classification: Position is full time, non-exempt (hourly).

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time in an office environment.
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift at least 30 pounds on a consistent basis.

Mental Demands:

  • Ability to use all equipment associated with the position, including, but not limited to, computer keyboard, telephone, office equipment, and company vehicles.
  • Ability to perform assigned duties under frequent time pressures in an interruptive environment.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret departmental administrative needs and results.
  • Ability to understand and solve complex problems.
  • Ability to maintain mental concentration for significant periods of time.

Work Environment:

  • Ability to work in a chaotic environment with loud noise levels.
  • Able to work varied hours which include nights, weekends and holidays.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.00 - $21.00 per hour
