SUMMARY: Providing safe and quality food is the job of all House of Flavors employees. The Palletizing Stacker, an at-will employee working under the direction of the Palletizing Manager, Supervisors and shift Lead Person, is primarily responsible to move frozen finished product from a conveyor to a pallet using proper lifting technique. The Palletizing Stacker wraps pallets with plastic and labels pallets with accurate coding. Palletizing Stackers, if authorized and licensed, use forklifts to put product in the freezer or help out in another departments. The Palletizing Stacker employee may be asked to perform duties in the tri-tray area and will be responsible to maintain a clean work environment. All Good Manufacturing Practices and general safety practices are observed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.) Stacks (palletizes) ice cream and frozen desserts in the method set forth by the customer while watching for unacceptable packaging that must be separated from the saleable product; wraps pallets with plastic as instructed.
2.) Provides accurate pallet counts and/or documentation for each pallet stacked.
3.) Uses a forklift, if authorized and licensed, to move the finished product from the palletizing area to the freezer for shipping or storage.
4.) Maintains a clean work area by keeping the area free of debris, pallets, and ice cream. Sorts out rewraps from non-saleable product, determining re-melt product, and restacking partial pallets.
5.) If instructed, checks, cleans, and maintains the tri-tray area; un-jams and resets tri-tray.
6.) Works as a member of the Palletizing team, learning the jobs of different work stations included in this job description, enabling the ability to rotate from job to job giving breaks or filling in when other employees are absent.
7.) Helps out in other departments, repairing pallets, helping with inventory, and general plant and grounds cleaning and/or basic maintenance.
8.) Completes all other duties as assigned, including working with the Palletizing Manager and other managers to enhance the overall productivity of the department and the profitability of the company.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or equivalent is required along with a minimum of 3 months of work experience in a related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience. The ability to work co-operatively in a team environment is essential.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and write in order to follow simple instructions and correspond to short documents and ability to effectively present information verbally to others.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to match numbers such as product codes and to add, subtract, multiply and divide in whole numbers.
REASONING ABILITY: Has the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or verbal instructions. Has ability to understand and apply proper lifting techniques.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to stand, including walking, for long periods of time up to 12 hours; required to use hands and arms to lift objects for long periods of time and occasionally perform fine manipulation of hand held tools or controls. Employee is required to twist, bend, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch and to use hand/eye coordination to stack or sort product. Employee must be able to talk and hear.
The employee must be able to continuously lift and/or move up to 42 pounds for up to 8 hours and lift or move a 75 pound pallet. The employee could be required to climb an 8 foot ladder and should not be afraid of heights.
The room temperature while doing routine palletizing varies from 20 degrees F. to 35 degrees F. Room temperature in the tri-tray is -20 degrees F. Employees may be in a very cold environment for up to 2 hours. It is the responsibility of the employee to be properly dressed in this cold environment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to extreme cold which may get down to –20 degrees F. The employee occasionally works in high places or places of limited space. Using the proper lifting technique, the employees are instructed to lift no more than two bulk cans, approximately 42 pounds, at any one time. The noise level in the work area is usually loud. Safety equipment may be required.
COMMENTS AND/OR ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Employee is required to wear an approved uniform which is provided by the company. Employee is to wear safety-toed boots and, when necessary, insulated coveralls, bibs, coat, face mask, gloves and boots. House of Flavors does make provisions in its policy book to provide suitable clothing for its qualified employees. If asked to work on the production floor, is required to wear a hairnet and, if facial hair is present, a beard net. Occasionally the use of gloves for food safety is required.
