What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part Time House Manager position at House Manager?
Part-Time House Manager / Family Assistant
Boulder, Colorado | Approximately 10–15 Hours per Week
We are a warm, active family of three living in Boulder, Colorado, looking for a reliable, proactive, and organized part-time House Manager / Family Assistant to help make everyday family life run more smoothly.
We are a husband and wife with a 15-month-old daughter and a 1,200-square-foot home. With two busy working parents and a young child, we are looking for someone who can take ownership of many of the small but important things that keep a household organized—from planning meals and grocery shopping to tidying the house, managing laundry, tackling household projects, and occasionally helping with our daughter.
This is an ideal role for someone who genuinely enjoys creating order, preparing good food, anticipating what needs to be done, and helping a family stay one step ahead.
What You'll Help WithMeal Planning, Grocery Shopping & Cooking
Food and meal support will be an important part of the role. Responsibilities may include:
- Planning simple, healthy, family-friendly meals for the week
- Creating grocery lists and doing weekly grocery shopping
- Preparing and cooking meals in our home
- Meal prepping ingredients or meals for busy weekdays
- Keeping the refrigerator and pantry organized
- Monitoring household staples and restocking groceries and supplies as needed
- Helping reduce food waste by keeping track of what we have and incorporating it into meal planning
We enjoy good food and are looking for someone who is comfortable in the kitchen and enjoys cooking, but professional culinary experience is not required.
Household Management & Organization
We are looking for someone who notices what needs to be done and is comfortable taking initiative. Household responsibilities may include:
- General household tidying and daily/weekly home resets
- Kitchen cleanup and keeping common areas organized
- Running regular loads of family laundry, including washing, drying, folding, and putting away clothing, towels, and linens
- Keeping laundry moving throughout the week so it doesn't pile up
- Organizing toys, closets, cabinets, pantry areas, and other household spaces
- Managing household supplies and identifying items that need to be reordered
- Handling occasional returns, pickups, drop-offs, and local errands
- Helping coordinate deliveries, cleaners, maintenance providers, or other household services
- Taking ownership of small household projects and helping us work through our ongoing to-do list
- Helping prepare the home for seasonal changes, trips, visitors, or other family needs
This is not primarily a deep-cleaning position. We are looking for someone focused on household management, organization, laundry, light upkeep, and helping the home function smoothly.
Family & Event Support
We enjoy hosting friends and family and would love help making gatherings easier and more enjoyable. This could include:
- Helping plan seasonal gatherings, holidays, birthdays, or casual get-togethers
- Grocery and supply shopping for events
- Helping with food preparation and basic setup
- Organizing the house before and after gatherings
- Helping coordinate other details as needed
Occasional Childcare
The position is primarily focused on household and family management, but we would also like someone who is comfortable caring for our 15-month-old daughter when needed.
Childcare responsibilities may occasionally include:
- Daycare pickup
- Spending time with her at home or taking her on a walk or to a nearby activity
- Preparing simple meals or snacks for her
- Occasional afternoon or evening childcare
- Periodic date-night babysitting
Because childcare is part of the role, we are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys being around young children and has experience caring for babies or toddlers.
The Person We're Looking For
The right person for our family is someone who is:
- Proactive: You notice what needs to be done and take initiative without needing detailed instructions for every task.
- Organized: You enjoy creating systems, keeping track of details, and bringing order to a busy household.
- Dependable: We can count on you to arrive when expected, communicate clearly, and follow through.
- Warm and trustworthy: You will be an important part of our family's day-to-day life, so mutual trust and a positive relationship are important to us.
- Flexible: Some weeks may focus more heavily on cooking and grocery shopping, while others may include organizing projects, errands, laundry, events, or childcare.
- Comfortable in the kitchen: You enjoy planning and preparing straightforward, healthy meals.
- Good with young children: You are patient, attentive, and comfortable caring for a toddler.
- A strong communicator: You are comfortable coordinating with us about priorities, schedules, groceries, household needs, and upcoming plans.
Qualifications
Ideally, candidates will have:
- Previous experience as a House Manager, Family Assistant, Household Assistant, Nanny, Personal Assistant, or in a similar role
- Experience caring for infants or toddlers
- Confidence with meal planning, grocery shopping, and home cooking
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license
- Eligibility to work in the United States
- Willingness to complete a background check
- Comfortable around a young child and working in a family home
- Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification preferred
Schedule
We anticipate approximately 10–15 hours per week.
We would ideally establish a consistent weekly schedule while maintaining some flexibility based on family needs. Most regular hours would take place during weekdays, with occasional opportunities for daycare pickup, evening babysitting, or additional help around gatherings and special events.
We are looking for someone interested in building an ongoing relationship with our family rather than simply picking up occasional shifts.
Why This Role
Our goal is to find someone who can become a trusted extension of our family and make our household feel a little less hectic and a lot more organized.
We value initiative and independence and want the person in this role to feel comfortable taking ownership. If you see that groceries are running low, a load of laundry needs to be started, a drawer desperately needs organizing, or dinner could be prepped ahead of a busy evening, we'd love for you to feel empowered to handle it.
If you are someone who enjoys cooking, organizing, getting things done, working with a young family, and creating a calm and well-run home, we'd love to hear from you.
To apply, please send a brief introduction about yourself, relevant household management and/or childcare experience, your general weekly availability, and references if available.
