About Hound & Crumb
Hound & Crumb is a new dog-first bakery café opening in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
We aren’t a people café that happens to allow dogs. Here, the dog is the customer.
Our menu includes freshly prepared café bowls, house-made broths and sips, bakery treats, frozen specialties, and celebration items created specifically for dogs.
We’re building our opening team and looking for someone dependable, personable, observant, and willing to learn multiple areas of our café operation.
The Position
The Café Team Member is a cross-trained position, not a single-station job.
Depending on the shift and your training, you may work as a host, assist with guest check-in, operate the register, serve café and bakery orders, package takeout purchases, reset dining spaces, maintain the bakery case, and support the overall flow of service.
Team members may also have the opportunity to cross-train in basic café line and food-assembly responsibilities.
Because Hound & Crumb is intentionally starting with a small team, we are looking for people who are comfortable learning multiple responsibilities and stepping into different areas as service needs change.
Responsibilities
- Welcome dogs and their guardians
- Manage guest arrival and check-in procedures
- Assist with reservations and our structured entry process
- Communicate Hound & Crumb’s house expectations clearly and professionally
- Operate the point-of-sale/register system
- Take and accurately communicate orders
- Serve café and bakery items
- Package takeout purchases
- Maintain and restock the bakery and service areas
- Reset and sanitize dining areas between guests
- Maintain cleanliness throughout the café
- Assist with dishes, opening, closing, and routine cleaning responsibilities
- Learn Hound & Crumb’s menu, ingredients, and service standards
- Follow food-handling and sanitation procedures
- Maintain awareness of dogs moving through the environment
- Follow all Hound & Crumb dog-interaction and safety policies
- Communicate effectively with the kitchen and other team members
- Cross-train in additional café responsibilities as assigned
- Help maintain a calm, organized, welcoming environment
Who We’re Looking For

- Comfortable working independently once properly trained
- Able to stay organized when several things are happening at once
- Team-oriented and willing to help where needed
- Comfortable standing for extended periods and performing normal café duties including cleaning, carrying orders, and restocking
Previous experience in restaurants, cafés, hospitality, hosting, serving, retail, or customer service is preferred, but we are willing to train the right person.
Availability
This is a part-time position.
Tuesday availability is particularly important for our current staffing needs.
Additional Friday and weekend availability is a plus and may provide opportunities for additional hours as Hound & Crumb grows.
Initial hours may be limited during our opening period and may increase based on business needs, performance, availability, and company growth.
Compensation
Starting pay: $13.50/hour
Employees may have opportunities to cross-train into additional Hound & Crumb positions. Training for another role does not necessarily mean that role has the same rate of pay; compensation is based on the position being performed.
