ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure all company operations adhere to transportation regulations, including safety standards, environmental laws as outlined by federal, state, and local authorities (e.g., DOT, FMCSA, ODAPC)
Physical and Drug Testing Coordination:
- Schedule physical ability tests, coordinate drug screens, and ensure the relationship with clinics is satisfactory
Application Review and Motor Vehicle Record Checks:
- Review applications and check motor vehicle records to ensure the quality of candidates during the interview process
Accident and Incident Reporting:
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of accidents and incidents, adhering to regulatory and company requirements.
Auditing:
- Assist Safety Manager and Compliance Manager in conducting regular audits to assess compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
Risk Management:
- Identify potential areas of legal risk and compliance gaps, propose solutions and ensure corrective actions are taken to mitigate risks.
Training and Education:
- Provide training sessions to employees, management, and drivers regarding compliance requirements and safety standards.
Documentation and Record-Keeping:
- Maintain up-to-date records of compliance, audits, training, and reports in an organized manner.
Employee Compliance:
- Assist Compliance Manager with ensuring compliance with driver hours-of-service regulations, proper licensing and certifications, and safety training.
Driver and Employee Safety Programs:
- Support Safety Manager in coordinating safety programs for drivers and other employees, ensuring they adhere to DOT standards. This includes monitoring employee safety training and certifications (e.g., defensive driving, ADA training, etc.)
Employee Records and Documentation:
- Assist with maintaining accurate employee records, including certifications, background checks, driving records, and safety training documentation to ensure compliance with industry regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- CDL Class B with Passenger Endorsement and a clean MVR, preferred but not required.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a compliance role, ideally within the transportation industry
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and integrity in maintaining confidentiality
- Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to assess complex regulatory issues.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage a crisis, and de-escalation skills
- Knowledge of transportation industry regulations (DOT, FMCSA, ODAPC, etc.)
- Strong understanding of compliance frameworks
- Familiarity with HOS regulations, safety standards, and driver-specific requirements
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with vendors, management, and peers
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and compliance management software.
