Job Title: Spray Technician

SUMMARY  Perform golf course maintenance tasks as directed and scheduled by the superintendent or his assistant. Operate golf course maintenance equipment and load and unload and work with golf course fertilizers and pesticides. Required to hold and maintain valid state pesticide applicator license. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

1. Operate golf course maintenance equipment in a safe and orderly manner; reporting mechanical or safety deficiencies immediately.

2. Load, unload and work with golf course fertilizers and pesticides under the direction of a qualified and licensed pest control applicator.

3. Establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with those contacted on a day-to-day basis.

4. Perform golf course fertilizer and pesticide applications as directed and supervised by the superintendent or assistant superintendent.

5. Have complete knowledge and experience of calibrating both spreader and spray equipment for both dry and liquid fertilizer and pesticide materials.

6. Must possess the knowledge and ability to calculate proper tank mixing amounts for water and pesticide materials in order to achieve a desired application rate.

7. Maintain a written log of each pesticide used. Log to include, but not limited to, date  and time of application, pesticide used, rate of application, area of application, target for which application made, weather conditions, etc.

8. Maintain a running inventory balance for each pesticide used and stocked. Inventory sheet for each pesticide to reflect, but not limited to, date pesticide received, vendor  supplying pesticide, current SDS sheet, dates and amount used and remaining

 balance. 

9. Maintain current SDS sheets in a three-ring binder for each pesticide stocked and used on the golf course. SDS sheets must be available for review by any golf course maintenance employee at any time.

10. Must understand, acknowledge and abide by the safe usage methods, practices and rates as prescribed on the label of each pesticide used.

11. Restore all equipment and work area to a clean and safe condition after each task is completed.

12. Must have complete knowledge, understanding and ability to operate all golf course fertilizer and pesticide application equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

13. Wear and maintain all safety clothing and equipment provided in a manner consistent with POA policy.

14. May be required to drive POA vehicle or personal vehicle while conducting POA business.

15. Perform other golf course maintenance tasks as directed and scheduled by the superintendent or his assistant.

16. Regular attendance is required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Must be able to safely operate walk-behind mowers for long distances over an extended period of time. Must have ability and willingness to work overtime, weekends and holidays as needed and scheduled by the superintendent. 


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE  Two years experience in golf maintenance work. Must be mechanically minded with the ability to work with power equipment (riding and non-riding) and hand tools to cut and trip grass and other related golf course maintenance jobs. High School diploma or general education degree (GED).


LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS  Requires a valid Arkansas driver’s license and clean driving record with proof of liability insurance. Must have a valid Arkansas pesticide license.

The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, talk or hear, and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. This is a safety-sensitive position.
