Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated NOC Technician to join our IT support team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining network infrastructure, providing technical support, and ensuring optimal system performance. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, excellent communication abilities, and a solid understanding of various operating systems and network protocols. The NOC Technician plays a critical role in maintaining the stability and security of our IT environment, supporting end-users, and troubleshooting complex technical issues.
Hours are Sunday through Thursday, 12:00am to 8:30am EDT
Key Responsibilities
Network & System Monitoring
- Continuously monitor network performance, server health, and infrastructure systems using NOC monitoring tools and dashboards.
- Identify anomalies, performance degradation, or outages and take prompt action.
Incident Response & Troubleshooting
- Respond to alerts, alarms, and service interruptions, following established runbooks and escalation procedures.
- Perform initial diagnosis of network, server, and application issues.
- Coordinate escalations to engineering, on-call support, or vendors as necessary.
- Document all incidents, actions taken, and resolutions in ticketing systems.
Maintenance & Operations
- Execute routine tasks such as system checks, backup verification, patch verification, and scheduled maintenance activities.
- Assist with after-hours planned maintenance windows.
- Ensure systems are operating efficiently and that all alerts are properly cleared or addressed.
Communication & Reporting
- Provide clear, timely communication to internal teams regarding incidents, changes, and overnight issues.
- Write incident reports, shift summaries, and hand-off notes for daytime teams.
- Update knowledge base or runbooks when gaps or improvements are identified.
Required Qualifications
- 1–3 years of experience in a Network Operations Center (NOC), help desk, IT support, or similar technical operations environment.
- Basic understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, routing, switching, DNS, firewalls).
- Experience with Cisco, Ciena, and Juniper routing and switching platforms.
- Familiarity with Linux/Windows server administration fundamentals.
- Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, PRTG, etc.).
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Ability to remain focused, calm, and effective during incidents.
- Ability to work independently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Industry certifications such as CompTIA Network , Security , CCNA, or similar.
- Experience working with ISPs, data centers, or cloud environments.
- Basic scripting skills (Bash, PowerShell, Python).
- Experience in environments requiring high uptime and SLAs.
