SUMMARY:

Is responsible for delivering quality radiation treatments to a varied patient population. The radiation therapist provides patient services by participating on a health care team providing cohesion between the radiation therapist, nursing, radiation oncologist, and administration. In addition, the radiation therapist exercises professional judgment in the performance of procedures, including (but not limited to) treatments and simulation. The radiation therapist also recognizes patient conditions requiring immediate action and notifies the nurse.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Operates treatment equipment, CT scanner, and other devices as appropriate.
* Positions and immobilizes patients correctly.
* Evaluates verification images for shifts during the course of treatment.
* Delivers treatment according to physician’s prescription.
* Performs daily treatment unit warm-up and QA procedure.
* Completes daily chart checks by Friday.
* Performs microdosimetry and records variance.
* Meets annual safety/employee health requirements.
* Performs simulation procedures and records patient set up instructions.
* Records daily treatment and maintains patient records pertinent to treatment.
* Assumes responsibility and accountability for judgments and actions.
* Notifies proper personnel in the event of a treatment error.
* Uses Son Array and fiducial software correctly.
* Demonstrates efficient, effective, and prompt responses to any patient crisis situation.
* Demonstrations dependability and accountability in all assigned tasks.
* Protects patient’s rights by properly draping patient prior to procedure.
* Provides service with respect for human dignity and uniqueness of the patient unrestricted by consideration of socioeconomic status, personal attribute, or the nature of health problems.
* Knows emergency procedures for fire, safety, hazardous material utility system failure, and disasters.
* Adheres to the TRMC Compliance Program, code of Conduct and TRMC policies and procedures including HIPAA.
* Attends all mandatory education programs.
* Improves self knowledge through voluntarily attending education programs and continuing education/certification classes.
* Accepts and acts upon constructive criticism in order to improve abilities.
* Builds and maintains good working relationship with the medical staff and peers.
* Willing to cross-train in order to better assist co-workers and to provide maximum efficiency in department.
* Volunteers/participates on hospital committees, functions, and department projects.
* Accepts responsibility to establish and maintain conditions conducive to high quality patient care.
* Manages resources effectively.
* Demonstrates strict adherence to all hospital safety policies, infection control policies, restraint policies, fire reporting, drill activities, and equipment maintenance.
* Keeps abreast of pertinent federal, and state regulations and laws and Tift Regional Health System, Inc. (“TRHS”) policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
* Understands and adheres to: TRHS’ compliance standards as they appear in TRHS’s Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy; and HIPAA and TRHS policies regarding privacy and security of protected health information.
* Demonstrates the ability to perform tasks that meet the age-specific requirements of the persons, patients, vendors, and staff that the employee is charged to interact with as required by the position.
* Offers suggestions on ways to improve operations of department and reduce costs.
* Attends all mandatory education programs.
* Improves self-knowledge through voluntarily attending continuing education/certification classes.
* Maintains required competency levels as identified in written exams, skills checklists, skills labs, annual safety and health requirements as well as service excellence education hours requirements.
* Cross-trains in order to better assist co-workers and to provide maximum efficiency in the department.
* Volunteers/participates on hospital committees, functions, and department projects.
* Manages resources effectively.
* Reports equipment in need of repair in order to extend life of equipment and removes malfunctioning equipment out of service with timely reporting to the appropriate personnel.
* Makes good use of time so as to not create needless overtime.

EDUCATION:

* Associate's Degree in Radiation Therapy

CREDENTIALS:

* RADIATION THERAPIST

OTHER INFORMATION:

A minimum of two years of experience in the field of Radiation Therapy, required.
