Summary
The Part-Time Massage Therapist provides palliative, comfort-focused massage therapy services to hospice patients in accordance with the patient’s individualized plan of care and within the scope of professional licensure and training. As a member of the hospice interdisciplinary group (IDG), the Massage Therapist contributes to the management of pain, anxiety, tension, and overall comfort, supporting quality of life for patients with life-limiting illness. Services are provided in a variety of settings, including private homes, nursing facilities, assisted living, and independent living communities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current, unrestricted Massage Therapist license in the state of Georgia
- Current CPR certification required
- Graduation from an accredited massage therapy program
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and current auto insurance
- Ability to travel to patient residences and care facilities
- Ability to maintain documentation standards consistent with CMS hospice regulations
- Basic computer proficiency for clinical documentation
Competencies, Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- At least two to four years of experience or specialized training in hospice, palliative care, or medical massage preferred
- Knowledge of symptom management, comfort measures, and contraindications in seriously ill or frail populations
- Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team model
- Strong communication and observational skills
- Professional judgment, emotional resilience, and demonstrated compassion
- Ability to maintain appropriate therapeutic boundaries
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Position requires moderate visual concentration for patient charting/documentation. This position carries a risk of exposure to infectious diseases and requires skill in standard safety precautions. Requires ability to stand for long periods of time. May be required to lift up to 20 lbs. with no heavy lifting required.
The Massage Therapist may be required to provide care in what has been determined by local authorities as a high-risk crime area. This position encounters stressful situations with patients and their families regarding end of life care and the Massage Therapist must be able to accurately, timely and concisely document the patient/family encounter using a computer.
