With the support of the community, Hospice of the Valley’s Dementia Care and Education Campus is an innovative and comprehensive resource for those living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.  The Campus provides full-spectrum care for persons living with all stages of dementia and support for their families.  A 12-person Assisted Living Center, a 10-person Hospice Inpatient Care Home, an Adult Day Center, and a Child Center provides superb and creative person-centered care, and a Community Education Center educates and inspire physicians, nurses, social workers, caregivers, families, and the community to improve quality of life for persons living with dementia.

Position Summary

The Adult Day Club Activities Coordinator plays a highly visible and essential role in creating a warm, engaging experience for club members. This position is ideal for a creative, and energetic individual who thrives in a fast-paced, people-centered environment and is comfortable leading groups, adapting in real time, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team. This role focuses on facilitating meaningful engagement, social connection, movement, creativity, and cognitive stimulation for adults living with mild to moderate cognitive change. This position concentrates primarily on programming, group facilitation, and the overall flow and energy of the day. In addition to leading activities this role will help guide volunteers and students in the space.

 

Responsibilities

  • Plans, directs, performs, organizes, and facilitates engaging daily programming including:  movement, exercise, music, dance, games, interactive group activities, creative art projects and cognitive and conservation based programs.
  • Lead groups of older adults with warmth, confidence, professionalism, and encouragement.
  • Continuously assess group dynamics, energy level, and individual needs and adapt programming in real time to support engagement and emotional well-being.
  • Use creativity, storytelling, humor, and strong communication skills to foster participation and connection.
  • Help maintain smooth daily flow and transitions between activities and program segments.
  • Provide guidance and direction to volunteers and students supporting programming and group activities.
  • Collaborate closely with the Adult Day Club team to support member success and program quality.
  • Assist with supportive tasks including room resets, light cleaning/sanitizing of activity areas, setting up and breaking down activities, and rearranging furniture and activity spaces as needed.
  • General supervision and supportive cueing/redirection.
  • Maintains and enhances professional skills.
  • Adheres to high standards of personal and professional conduct.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in an activity/programming-related position, preferably in memory care or experience providing direct care for persons living with dementia.
  • Possess current CPR.
  • Strong critical thinking, judgment, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to adapt quickly and remain calm and positive in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and storytelling skills.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and help guide volunteers and students.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in recreational therapy.
