SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for providing dietary support to terminally ill patients and their families in the hospice residence, in accord with Hospice Patient Care Plans.

This position is 16 hours a week, rotates weekends and holidays.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES (other duties may be assigned)

  1. Maintains the confidentiality of patient and employee information at all times, both at work and off duty, and after the termination of employment. According to the agencies Notice of Privacy Practices and HIPAA regulations.
  2. Is knowledgeable and functional in computer applications including database, word processing, spreadsheet, and e-mail system as required for the execution of the job.
  3. Cooks meals in quantities according to menu, standardized recipes, and patient census, within health code, and ensures all food is maintained at appropriate temperature per regulations and ensures utmost quality with a minimum of waste.
  4. Operates various kitchen equipment including, but not limited to, steamer, coffee pot, ovens, dishwasher, etc., according to manufacturer’s guidelines and appropriate rules and regulations.
  5. Follows proper procedure for labeling and storage of refrigerated and frozen food.
  6. Cleans and maintains serving areas, equipment and utensils according to health code.
  7. Works with the family /caregiver and Hospice interdisciplinary team members to meet the needs of the patient/family/caregiver.
  8. Provides and maintains a safe environment for the patient.
  9. Performs within the limits of training and work experience.
  10. Accepts responsibility for continued education to enhance job related skills and abilities and attends all staff meetings and in-services.
  11. Adheres to all policies, procedures and regulations regarding patient care, conduct, safety, fire, security and quality management program.

  14. Attends mandatory and regularly scheduled meetings as assigned. Respect the time of others by being prompt for meetings.
  15. Meets agency attendance and tardiness guidelines.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit.
  2. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk.
  3. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  4. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet/humid conditions and outside weather conditions
  5. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate

Qualifications:
  1. High School Graduate.
  2. General dietary experience is preferred.
  3. Licensed to drive with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state and or organization requirements and is in good working order.
