POSITION TITLE: Utility Processor/Intake/Cashier
REPORTS TO: Thrift Store Manager/ Assistant Manager
POSITION PURPOSE/SUMMARY:
Entry level staff position in the Hospice of Amador Thrift Store. Under direction of store manager and assistant manager, this position is responsible for filling any of the 3 positions in the store as needed each shift. This includes functioning in the capacity of the Warehouse/Intake Coordinator, Processing Coordinator and Cashier as needed for the timely processing of a variety of donated merchandise from the general public and local businesses while performing a variety of tasks essential within a retail business. Other duties include Keeping the store premises clean, orderly and observing security and safety procedures. This position requires a pleasant cooperative attitude, multitasking and excellent customer service skills when under pressure. The position will need to support the Jackson Thrift Store as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:
· Excels at customer service, as a cashier, when doing donation intake and while performing and store duties.
· Acts as back up cashier, processing coordinator and Intake coordinator when needed.
· As directed, supervises volunteers and community service workers in processing and pricing merchandise.
· Maintains good rapport with co-workers, customers, donors and volunteers in work environment.
· Answers store’s phones promptly and courteously according to Thrift Store procedures; opens and closes Thrift store following established procedures.
· Performs light custodial tasks such as vacuuming, dusting, litter removal, straightening clothes, and putting racks, shelves, counters, tables and dressing rooms in order etc.
· Receives donations from the public and provide receipts.
· Receive payment by cash, check, credit cards, vouchers.
· Issue receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers.
· Greet customers entering establishments.
· Maintain clean and orderly checkout, intake and processing areas.
· Stages donations to go into store for sorting and pricing.
· Performs material handling tasks in support of donation processors.
· Organizes and tags recycling containers for identification for pickup.
· Loads recycling containers for transport.
· Loads Hospice trucks for dump runs.
· Operates Hospice truck for various business-related needs.
· Performs light maintenance on Hospice vehicles.
· Operates forklift as needed.
· Assists in special fundraising events as necessary.
· May perform light maintenance duties around stores and office complex.
· Keeps manager posted as to needed supplies in receiving area.
· Moves all donated materials into warehouse and helps get intake area cleared by end of business day.
· Directs customer questions and inquiries to the proper staff person.
· Communicates store policy regarding sales and returns.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
· Work weekends and holidays as scheduled/required.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
· High School diploma or equivalent is preferred.
· Extensive retail experience with a wide variety of merchandise categories preferred.
· Good verbal and written communication skills; ability to speak and communicate effectively with small groups of volunteers, co-workers and the general public.
· Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or verbal instructions.
· Ability to deal with problems involving some variables in standardized situations and to demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
· Ability to work effectively and flexibly in a fast pace, hectic or unstructured work environment.
