Staff members work collaboratively to ensure personalized care plans that honor patient values and preferences.

Role Description The Chaplain is a Part-time role based in Tucson, AZ, providing spiritual and emotional support to patients, families, and caregivers. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting spiritual assessments, offering counseling and prayer as requested, and facilitating rituals or services that align with each patient’s beliefs and traditions. The Chaplain collaborates with the interdisciplinary care team to integrate spiritual care into overall care plans and participates in team meetings and family conferences. Additional duties include maintaining accurate documentation, providing grief support and bereavement resources, and serving as a liaison with community faith leaders when needed. The role also involves educating staff on spiritual care considerations and respecting diverse belief systems.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to provide nonjudgmental spiritual and emotional support to individuals and families from diverse faiths, cultures, and backgrounds.
  • Experience in hospice, palliative care, hospital chaplaincy, or related pastoral care setting.
  • Strong communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust quickly in sensitive situations.
  • Skill in conducting spiritual assessments, documenting care, and collaborating effectively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Degree in Divinity, Theology, Spiritual Care, or related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience considered.
  • Ordination, endorsement, or appropriate credentialing from a recognized faith or spiritual body, and evidence of good standing.
  • Certification or eligibility for certification from a professional chaplaincy organization (e.g., APC, NACC, NAJC) preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for visits within the Tucson, AZ area, as required.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries, uphold confidentiality, and handle emotionally intense situations with calm and resilience.
