Unit Secretary - Inpatient Unit - Mon-Fri 3:00PM -11:30PM

Position Summary:
The Unit Secretary performs clerical, reception, and coordination of tasks to facilitate smooth functioning of the Inpatient Unit. Receives and directs visitors on the Inpatient Unit and communicates in a professional and positive manner with patients, family, team members, hospital staff and physicians.

Position Duties & Responsibilities:

• Complies with regulatory agency standards and participates in regulatory survey process when requested.
• Answers call lights and alarms in a timely manner.
• Demonstrates collaborative and collegial relationships with the IDT, Admissions Team and other staff to assure coordination in delivery of care.
• Works with Hosparus Inpatient Care team members to assure cost-effective care.
• Obtains necessary documentation for HICC admissions, transfers and discharges.
• Communicates clearly, concisely and in a timely manner with team members.
• Maintains supplies needed at nurses station.
• Performs chart audit at discharge and keeps the Registered Nurse and Medical Records Department updated on missing elements.
• Requisitions ambulances and other supplies/services needed by HICC patients.
• Performs reception duties on the Inpatient Unit (greets visitors, answers phone and answers patient call lights).
• Registers and discharges patients in the Norton Healthcare computer system and EMR.
• Processes admissions and discharges according to Inpatient Unit procedures.
• Transcribes physician orders and enters them into the computer accurately and in a timely manner. Mails hand written MD scripts to appropriate parties when applicable.
• Keeps medical record up to date.

Position Qualifications:

• High school diploma required.
• CNA certification in Kentucky strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology required.
• One year home health aide or nursing assistant experience preferred.
• Computer usage skills, including experience with Windows-based operating system required.
• Excellent communication skills and phone etiquette required.
