Clinical Laboratory Scientist/Microbiology
Job Summary
The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) plays a critical role in supporting patient care by performing a wide range of diagnostic laboratory testing, including general clinical laboratory and microbiology testing. This position is responsible for specimen collection, analysis, interpretation of results, quality assurance, and collaboration with healthcare providers to ensure accurate, timely, and reliable diagnostic information.

Duties and Responsibilities
Collect, prepare, and label patient samples, specimens, and cultures in accordance with established protocols.
Perform a broad range of clinical laboratory testing, including hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, and microbiology.
Perform microbiological testing to detect, isolate, and identify pathogens.
Conduct antimicrobial susceptibility testing to support appropriate treatment decisions.
Analyze, interpret, and accurately report routine and abnormal test results to healthcare providers.
Operate, maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, analyzers, and microscopes.
Maintain quality control and quality assurance programs, including proficiency testing and accreditation requirements.
Adhere to laboratory safety standards, infection control policies, and regulatory requirements.
Identify technical issues, investigate discrepancies, and take corrective action as needed.
Monitor and maintain laboratory inventory, supplies, and reagents.
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals regarding test results and recommendations.
Train and support phlebotomists, technicians, and technologists in coordination with the Laboratory Supervisor.
Participate in research initiatives, method development, and implementation of new testing procedures as applicable.
Stay current with advancements in laboratory science, microbiology, diagnostic technologies, and emerging infectious diseases.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education / Certifications / Licenses
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field.
Eligible to sit for certification as a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MT) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist upon hire.
Certification required within two (2) years of employment.
Experience
Minimum of one (1) year of laboratory experience preferred.
Required Skills and Abilities
Physical, sensory, and cognitive abilities sufficient to perform essential job functions.
Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, microbiology techniques, and equipment.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities and clinical needs.
Knowledge of laboratory safety, infection control, and regulatory compliance.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a healthcare team.
