The Opportunity:

Horter is a family-owned financial services family of companies built around one idea: retirement planning should be coordinated, not fragmented. We bring investment management, tax prep & planning, estate planning, insurance, and Medicare together under one roof. Our tax division, Milestone Tax Center, is an established, actively marketed practice serving hundreds of annually, a mix of full wealth-management relationships and tax-only engagements, and we’re expanding it further as demand grows.

We’re looking for a CPA who wants to own the technical tax preparation work along with helping us build and scale that capability across multiple offices as the firm grows.

This is not a traditional tax preparation role. The right candidate understands the importance of tax preparation when building a roadmap to wealth-building opportunities, not just a task to complete — and wants to help clients keep more of what they earn through proactive planning, not just accurate filing. This role requires tax preparation but emphasizes the tax planning aspects that are involved in planning our client’s long-term retirement goals.

You’ll work directly alongside our 8 financial advisors and our client experience team. Standard return volume is handled through an outsourced tax-prep partner — freeing you to focus on strategy, complex returns, and growing the division.

What You'll Do:

• Tax Prep & Quality Review: Personally handle complex individual and all business returns. Review the accuracy of standard returns processed by our outsourced partner alongside advisors before filing.
• Tax Planning: Partner year-round with advisors on proactive planning — reviewing strategies, modeling scenarios, and integrating tax considerations into each client’s financial plan.
• Business Advisory: Support business-owner clients through discounted tax offerings, seminars, and related events. Serve as the technical expert, including accounting and bookkeeping support when appropriate.
• Division Leadership: Help lead the tax division’s growth — improving processes, managing the outsourced tax-prep partnership, and shaping the long-term vision for tax services at the firm.

What You'll Bring:

• Active CPA license in good standing (Ohio and Kentucky experience preferred).
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 5 years of relevant tax experience — public accounting, local firm, or RIA/wealth-management background all welcome. We value cultural fit and opportunity over pedigree.
• Strong technical depth in individual and business tax preparation and planning, with the ability to explain complex topics clearly to advisors and clients.
• A growth mindset — you want to help build something, not just fill a seasonal seat.
• Based in the Cincinnati area, able to work in-office, with flexibility for extended hours during tax season and occasional client events.

Compensation & Benefits:

• Base Salary: $95,000–$125,000 based on experience, plus performance-based bonuses.
• Benefits: 401(k) with matching, health/dental/vision insurance, paid time off.
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5:00 PM, with occasional overtime as needed.
• Location: In-office at 11726 Seven Gables Road, Cincinnati, OH 45249.
