Notice of District 5 Board Vacancy

Horry County Board of Education Seat Representing the Unexpired Term for District 5

The Horry County Board of Education ("Board") seeks to fill a vacancy in its membership for the seat representing the unexpired term for District 5. The vacancy shall be filled by appointment of the Board until the 2028 General Election, at which time a member will be elected from District 5 for the new term which is from 2028 to 2032.

Persons Interested In Being Considered Must

• Reside in District 5, which includes the following Horry County election precincts:
• Burgess #1, Burgess #2, Burgess #3, Burgess #4, Burgess #5, Garden City #1, Garden City #2, Garden City #3, Garden City #4, Glenns Bay, Surfside #1, Surfside #2, Surfside #3, Marlowe #2 (split), and Marlowe #3 (split)
  

AND

• Secure a filing form for the vacancy from one of the following locations:

Completed forms with four letters of reference must be received at the above address no later than 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. If submitting the form online, the deadline is no later than 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

Following receipt of the filing materials, the Board will meet to review the filing materials on Monday, May 18, 2026. The Board will interview the candidates, as the Board determines, on Thursday, May 28, 2026. Following the interviews, the Board will elect by majority vote one person from the eligible candidates to fill the vacancy.
